Are there no Hockey Arenas? What would 50 million buy in your city?

"The Glendale City Council agreed 5-2 late Tuesday to pay the National Hockey League up to an additional $25 million so the Phoenix Coyotes could stay another year in the desert.

The vote came at the end of a standing-room-only meeting that stretched longer than three hours.

The council meeting was the most fractious since Glendale's battle to keep the professional hockey team began publicly two years ago with the team's bankruptcy. Since then, Glendale has sought to find an owner willing to play at the city-owned Jobing.com Arena for years to come."

"The city paid $25 million this month to the NHL to fulfill the pledge it made last year to keep the Coyotes through the recently ended season.

In both situations, Glendale officials seemed on the verge of completing a deal with a team buyer. But they said the NHL was prepared to move the team unless the city agreed to cover losses.

The money for the first pledge came from a long-term utilities account. Glendale officials said they had not yet decided where they would pull the second $25 million from but that the city has budgeted for it."

13. The NHL had a love affair with the sunbelt in the 1990's. It's led to empty arenas.
They should of stayed in Canada.

5. In Chicago, both the Blackhawks and the Bulls
play at the United Center. So an area can be used for both.

7. The Islanders announced a plan to fleece the long island taxpayer for a new building
Yesterday. Hopefully it'll get voted down.

We have two arenas in new jersey, Madison square garden in manhattan, the new nets arena being built in Brooklyn. Now they want a new one on long island.

Enough already.

I think its weird when two teams on the same league play in the same building. Like the Laker's and Clippers.

12. Rangers play at MSG, Islanders play in the Nassau Coliseum
The Coliseum is probably the worst arena in professional sports. The Islanders need a new building. They could of gone in with the Nets on their Brooklyn arena, but didn't.

They've been trying to get a deal done for years and years.

I don't have a problem with them getting a new building that they need, just no need for the taxpayers to pay for it.

And move them where hockey is supported.
