No Breakfast For Kids Wearing ‘Wrong’ Shoes At Grade School
Edited on Tue May-10-11 04:24 PM by RamboLiberal
-----

The Nicholson brothers only grab a quick snack before heading to class because they qualify for a full free breakfast at Adam Powell Grade School. It’s something they look forward to every day, and it hurt when they were recently turned away.

They were wearing black athletic shoes. The boys told their mom that the assistant principal, Angela Peagler wouldn’t let them eat because their shoes didn’t fit the school uniform, which calls for a regular black dress shoe.

-----

Edwards says the boys have been wearing the shoes all year and administrators never complained. She’s confused.

-----

(School officials) They went on to explain that they were reacting to an increase in students violating the school dress code. The principal even offered to buy the boys new black shoes.

But here’s the kicker: The school’s dress code does not say the shoes have to be black dress shoes.

Someone should tell this school Al Gore's attorney David Boies wore black athletic shoes to the SCOTUS.

During the Siege of Florida, Gore lawyer David Boies had enjoyed equally glowing publicity. He arrived heralded as the "Michael Jordan of trial lawyers" and did not disappoint. His relaxed courtroom demeanor played off Richard's smooth formality. While Richard wore tailored suits and monogrammed shirts, Boies arrived in court in his trademark black knit tie and black leather athletic shoes.

you are hungry.

6. Maybe a teabagger troll mis-read black shoes as black children,
and is thinking to themselves, darned freeloading black children who just got back from playing basketball in their atheltic shoes. Why should I have to pay for that!

14. I just read the article. The boys are black.
And just have a look at the comments. Most of the comments say that mom is a negligent welfare queen who is teaching her ungrateful kids to be freeloaders.

Looks like my first guess about the unrec'ers was spot-on.

And also, I'll bet you $5 this article is also posted on FreeRepublic, or some other RW site.

7. There's a lot of crossover black leather "athletic" shoes

I gave up the black leather wingtips years ago.

I don't even know how one neatly characterizes some shoes as "athletic" or "dress" anymore.

8. What's wrong here is not the shoes, but the fact that
children are being punished for how their parents dress them. It seems a note home to the parents should have sufficed.

20. EVER. It is abuse. If a teacher knew a parent was withholding food as a punishment
the "manditory abuse reporter" law would kick in. We would have to call child services and report it or risk losing our license...

13. Let's see: quite apart from legitimacy of the policy, existence of the policy, adequate notice ...
and so on, the kids are punished by being DENIED BREAKFAST because they were sent to school in shoes that are claimed not to conform to the policy. Use hunger to enforce a dress code: what a wonderful way to teach kids.

Man, that is effed up.

My kids never owned a pair of "dress shoes".

I own one tie and have never worn it. Jerry Garcia painted one for me so I could have one tie, at least.

35. My nephew got in-school suspension
which basically meant no classroom instruction for the day because of a uniform violation. This in a public Nashville school.

The kids also get a zero as an assignment grade if they don't bring in certain items like parental signatures on forms.

This falls under "following directions and responsibility" according to the school.

How about they eat breakfast at home and we do away with the " full free breakfast"

thats where the outrage should be. Talk about a waste of tax payers money. School breakfast is a joke. If you cant give you kid a bowl of Apple Jacks in the morning or some oat meal or some eggs you shouldnt be allowed to have your kids.

And these kids are basically saying... screw eating at home even if there is food because we qualify for a full free breakfast. Let the tax payers feed us instead of mommy & daddy.

Im for the lunch program but completely against the breakfast program. Parents just take advantage of it and are lazy.

Go ahead and hammer away at me.

By the way since the breakfast is in place this guy should be fired or at least suspended.
