It's just a tool for disruption. I went to rec a good post that was very uncontroversial about a book and it got unrec'd for no good reason. There seems to be a small army of trolls that haven't been tomb stoned yet that unrec posts. There has to be a better system. I frankly think that alerting on controversial posts should be sufficient.
1. I don't know what uncontroversial post you are referring to.
But my impression is that when posts get unrecommended there is usually a reason. I can see who unrecommends each thread. I can say with certainty that there is no army of trolls secretly unrecommending quality posts. There are just regular DU members unrecommending posts for their own good (or not-so-good) reasons.
