but a reply by a member troubles me greatly. You have moderators, sanctioned by yourself, who moderate the board. Do you sanction mods by proxy, such as this:

It is against the rules to ascribe motives to someones post. You can alert on it an possibly eventually get them tombstoned.

It doesn't advance any dialog but it's fun.
On a good day I probably alert like ten posts or more. The funniest part is when you see them on other sites trying to claim that they were discriminated against or kicked off for their liberal views and try to impose this grim tone on it when you know that it was more like the bully video where the kid got slammed, and now they are limping with a broken ankle.
If a member (or particularly this member) has a grudge, is vindictive, or has ulterior motives, this could be used as a tool to remove those who the member thinks don't ascribe to their viewpoint.
Is this sanctioned?
Is this within the rules?
Additionally, if I decided to begin alerting on an accelerated basis, would that be sanctioned?
