Obama naming Hispanics to top posts at record pace
MIAMI -- President Barack Obama is on track to name more Hispanics to top posts than any of his predecessors, drawing appointees from a wide range of the nation's Latino communities, including Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans and Colombians.

That won't necessarily give the president a free pass on issues such as immigration, but it may ease Hispanics' worries about whether Obama will continue reaching out to a group that was key to his winning the White House.

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is by far Obama's most famous Hispanic appointee. In less than a year in office, the president has also tapped at least 48 other Hispanics to positions senior enough to require Senate confirmation. So far, 35 have been approved.

That compares with a total of 30 approved under Bill Clinton and 34 under George W. Bush during their first 20 months in office, according to U.S. Office of Personnel Management data...

4. Looks like he's shoring up one
Constituency while giving the shaft to the rest of us who supported him last year.

5. This bullshit memo is getting really old
If you really think that DU is the "base", you should think again. Once he'll sign the HC bill and unemployment starts to go down - some people here are gonna have a very long 7 years.

9. How the hell do you think the "base" comes together? Politicians just

snap their fingers and throngs of people show up at the polls to cast their votes for that politician?!

No. Grass roots work. Phone calls. Door knocking. Mailers. Press availabilities. Donations.

Those activities are carried out by a small army of people who are dedicated to getting an even larger army of voters out to the booth on election day.

And when that small army feels betrayed by their politicians, the whole thing falls to shit, kinda like we're starting to see today.

8. I think that's the plan. Getting the hispanic vote to counter the loss in the others.
He is losing support among the other groups.

No disrespect intended to one group or another. This is politics. That's what I would do. Wouldn't you? Esp. since the hispanic population is ticked off at the Republicans.

12. Wow guys, way to diss efforts at inclusiveness. Hispanics/Latinos are getting to be a huge chunk...
... of the US citizenry. Seems to me that President Obama is taking note of their importance, and not just giving lip-service in high-school Spanish like the faux Texan.
