2. No, he won't
Edited on Mon Aug-22-11 04:44 PM by Maccagirl
If this all ends like we all want it , the media and Pubbies will either denegrate it's importance or ignore it completely. I've never been so certain of anything. If he smiles they will say "He's taking a victory lap!"

10. How do you think the American media and Republicans will
influence the perceptions of the Libyan people of the events they just lived through? The statue in Kosovo was not put there by us, but by them, and many years after the fact. Clinton was not celebrated for that action here. He was accused of manufacturing it to distract from Monicagate. Wag the dog and all that.
If we are comparing the two situations, why not go with facts? We are seriously expecting a statue to be on the minds of the Libyan people in the near future? Really?
I hope this President gets a more fair shake at home than Clinton did with Kosovo.

17. As they are, apparently,
pretending the Clinton statue hasn't happened. I note the link is to the bbc/uk news article...not anything in the US.

5. I suspect David Cameron would get one before Obama.
He plead with Obama to get involved and the UK and France did the lion's share of the bombing.

6. American surveillance techniques enabled the victory, hands-down.
Edited on Mon Aug-22-11 05:42 PM by ClarkUSA
"(N.Y. Times) - As rebel forces in Libya converged on Tripoli on Sunday, American and NATO officials cited an intensification of American aerial surveillance in and around the capital city as a major factor in helping to tilt the balance after months of steady erosion of Col. Muammar Al Qathafi’s military.

The officials also said that coordination between NATO and the rebels, and among the loosely organised rebel groups themselves, had become more sophisticated and lethal in recent weeks, even though NATO’s mandate has been merely to protect civilians, not to take sides in the conflict.

NATO’s targeting grew increasingly precise, one senior NATO diplomat said, as the United States established around-the-clock surveillance over the dwindling areas that Libyan military forces still controlled, using armed Predator drones to detect, track and occasionally fire at those forces."

Not to mention taking out all their anti-aircraft defense systems early on via our battleships.

Also, as of April 1, 2011, the U.S. dropped 75% of the bombs in Libya: http://www.theatlanticwire.com/global/2011/04/us-dropped-76-bombs-libya/36285/

What are the sources for your claims?

8. Splitting hairs. Let's settle for "Navy ships" then. Here's what U.S. Navy ships did early on -->

13. No statues for Clinton in Belgrade
Edited on Mon Aug-22-11 09:58 PM by democrat2thecore
It was just another illegal war with NATO bombing downtown Belgrade. One day, the truth will be known about the pummeling of Yugoslavia/Serbia. Michael Parenti is a good place to start - he's a leftist who isn't afraid to call that like it was: Criminal.

Edited to add link: http://www.michaelparenti.org/yugoslavia.html

18. Hillary would be a better candidate
for the statue...I'm actually surprised her face wasn't on the fantastic 4 sign. She was big supporter of Libya action.

19. Yep, she was.
Going twice to France in one week for talks with Sarkozy and the other members of NATO. Hillary, Susan Rice and Samantha Powers were the biggest supporters of US involvement and the fly-over. It was said that Hillary remembered Rwanda and didn't want the West to allow another massacre to occur.
