Was Perry packing? - "That's why it's called concealed."

Was Perry packing?

Texas Gov. Rick Perry is a leading advocate of gun rights who like to boast of having dispatched a coyote on a recent job, so I asked him during today's walking press conference at the Iowa State Fair whether he was armed today.

"I never comment on whether I'm carrying a handgun or not," he said. "That's why it's called concealed."

(If he was armed, he could have found himself in hot water with the state police over a ban at the Fair that has rankled some local gun groups.)

6. Not that he's not a douchebag...
But I must clarify that that picture is from the archives - it was not taken at today's event.

7. Crossing state lines with a piece is stupid.
Thankfully, for the purposes of this example, RP is stupid.

Note: 99% sure he wasn't carrying anything other than water for the gun lobby.

8. Not really, it depends on the kind of permit(s) you have.
Edited on Mon Aug-15-11 02:40 PM by OneTenthofOnePercent
Depending on the permits one carries and their reciprocity agreements, carrying across state lines could be meaningless. For example, if Perry held Utah and Texas concealed handgun permits... he could carry just about everywhere that allows it.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if many high profile politicians have concealed handgun licenses after what happend in Arizona.

11. It COULD be meaningless.
But usually(almost certainly) it isn't.

14. "Could" be? ... it WOULD be.
Iowa has over a dozen reciprocity agreements. All Perry would have to do is have a nonresident permit from a reciprocal state and he could carry a piece in Iowa. Now, whether or not he was carring on (restricted) fairgrounds is a whole other debate... but as far as passing state to state, there's no problem crossing state lines if other states' permits are honored. no different than driving across state lines with an out-of-state drivers license.
