Yikes! Obama now a part-owner of the Packers
The Chicago Bears’ First Fan, gulp, is now a part-owner of the Green Bay Packers.
President Barack Obama was given shares of the publicly-owned Packers Friday when the Super Bowl champs visited the White House. More than 100,000 stockholders hold shares of the Packers.
Obama, a die-hard Bears fan, said welcoming the Pack to the White House was no easy task. Green Bay beat the Bears in last season’s NFC championship to reach the Super Bowl.“I’m just gonna come out and say it,” Obama said. “This hurts a little bit. This is a hard thing for a Bears fan to do. It doesn’t hurt as much as the NFC championship game hurt, but it still hurts.”

“Well, if I’m a part-owner,” Obama said, “I think ... we should initiate a trade to send Rodgers down to the Bears.”
Obama was then booed by the audience at the ceremony.

1. Hilarious.
Hopefully the Lions can get to visit the White House this time next year.

I can't believe I just said that. I've gone insane.

2. Hey, if the 'Aint's won it all....
Why not The Lions?
Just saying, sometimes it's all about getting hot when it counts.
Oh, and a killer defense goes a LONG way come playoff time.

ANYTHING can happen.

5. Seriously, I support the Packers BECAUSE they're municipally owned
When it comes to the ridiculous corporate culture of the NFL, you just gotta love the fact that the Pack is owned by the people of Green Bay. The ONLY professional team, in any sport, with this arrangement. And they are the CHAMPS!!

9. The Indians are owned by Larry Dolan
The Indians were technically a public company (in a corporate sense) for a very short time. They were never owned by the community-at-large though.

In 2000, Larry Dolan bought the Cleveland Indians of the MLB for $323 million from Richard Jacobs, who, along with his late brother David Jacobs, had paid $35 million for the club in 1986. Jacobs had taken the Indians public in 1997. As part of the deal, Dolan bought all of the stock at just over twelve dollars a share, making the franchise privately held once again.

13. I love the concept.
Unfortunately the NFL PTB will no longer allow it. How is that for those "freedoms" we fight to preserve.

15. Worth noting the community-owned Packers have some strong left-wing traditions....
...Union supporter Charles Woodson donated $2,000,000 to a hospital last year

...Former NT Gilbert Brown made robo-calls on behalf of Democratic State Senate candidates last week

...Former RG Mark Tauscher made a point to meet the Prez; "Tausch" was hurt last year, missed the SB, and is probably done career-wise.

The list goes on; maybe some other DU'er can recall other stories.
