Right now I think we're at 110% of what they demanded.

And working Americans get bupkes besides savage cuts.

Wow.

1. Repealing the Bush tax cuts is more than we asked for.
Why do we keep talking ourselves into this loser mentality?

2. Is repealing the Bush tax cuts on the table?
I haven't heard anything about that.

4. They automatically lapse. To keep them we would need legislation.

8. Why do you need revenues in the compromise when we are getting them anyway?

10. Bush's tax breaks are not giving us revenue
they are tax breaks for the wealthy.

11. Letting them lapse is. So by sitting on our asses we will generate $3.8 trillion in extra taxes.
You seen any proposal from the Dems to raise $3.8 trillion?

12. Well since at this time we are NOT generating
$3.8 trillion in extra taxes and will not be generating those extra taxes for a while, IF ever. I would say its a moot point.

13. 1 1/2 years from now.
You don't raise taxes so fast anyway. It's hard to change midyear.

7. Except one thing.
Obama walked right into their trap. I can't wait to see the campaign ads in 2012. Elect Obama and he will raise your taxes (what they won't say is that this is really about the Bush tax cuts expiring). Somehow, given his true colors right in front of our faces (that he's a center, right corporatist), I can't see him rebutting that at all. Like it or not folks, they're here to stay. As my dad used to say: The rich take away and the poor get took.

16. On the rich and corporations, yes.
Try doing it in an election year. They will pound him to death on "raising your taxes." Remember...there are already significant numbers of people believing their tax burdens have gone up under Mr. Obama.

to the Ds, when the Rs had Congress.

5. Not before they expire. At best that pushes it up one year.
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 12:31 AM by dkf
We need another year for the economy to recover anyway.

I believe that pushes revenues pretty close to the traditional 20% of GDP that we expect for revenues and spending.

20. Repealing the Bush tax cuts is WHAT *HE* CAMPAIGNED ON...you only get a "C" for doing what you're
supposed to do.

The undulation is amazing.

And some assignment of each item to a percentage.
