Poll question: An informal Poll: Which Obama do you prefer?
It seems to me there's a lot of people on here who are just peachy with Obama's presidency and others who are deeply disappointed.... I wonder what the ratio is on DU?

1. Unfortunately it appears that the Obama we voted for told us what we wanted to hear to get elected.
I'm not totally disappointed, but far more disappointed than I thought I would be based upon Obama's 2008 campaign rhetoric.

4. I pretty much concur
He's not the worst president ever, but he was the best candidate in my lifetime.

7. We can only judge a president by what he has done, not by his
promises of what he would do should he win the election. So, this
first option shouldn't even have been mentioned at all, should it?

6. I laugh at ppl who say the liked the Obama they voted for.
Obviously they hadn't been listening to what he said, since he's pretty much stayed on target for what he pitched during the campaign.

office.

19. Really?
lol. You must have missed him saying he would END torture. And he said he would END the war in Iraq (not just change the framing). And what about all that transparency he was going to bring, shining a bright light on the working of our government?

Of course, you know I could go on and on, and I'd be right. You know it too, because you "pretty muched" your own claim, indicating that you know he did not come through on all his campaign promises; far from it, in fact.

But I get your communication, you're OK with him. However, some of us expected better, and were led to believe we would be getting better by the candidate's own rhetoric.

9. Push poll technique..
Your question suggests that Obama has changed substantially in some manner. Looks and sounds like the same guy to me... except a bit grayer. No President in the history of this country has fulfilled 100% of their campaign commitments. It is naive and absurd to expect that. In fact I think he has been more true to his word than any President in my lifetime.. and I am almost an "old timer".

Edited on Tue May-31-11 09:02 PM by jenmito
along with many other progressive things. Of course you choose the Afghanistan escalation, but the sad truth is that there are quite a few DUers who do NOT know he promised to do that. THEY think he promised to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan already.

33. Let me know when that's done - that act just ordered a "review"
http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h2965/text?version=enr&nid=t0:enr:20

(1) IN GENERAL- On March 2, 2010, the Secretary of Defense issued a memorandum directing the Comprehensive Review on the Implementation of a Repeal of 10 U.S.C. 654 (section 654 of title 10, United States Code).

Nice, I thought Obama was going to REPEAL "DADT", not review it.

And, even if you try to frame it as an act, the "military leadership" has a loophole they can fly a B2 bomber through... if they can't agree that the enactment of a repeal won't affect military readiness, they don't have to do it.

I think it bears repeating, Obama didn't "abolish DADT", he & they only ordered a "review". It's right there in plain English. Let's all try to stay away from propaganda phrases while here on DU.

16. I made my opinion clear in the OP, yes.
So what? It's still not a push poll if there is an option to negate the OP.

And it's not much of a push anyway, as it is clear that the DU community overwhelmingly agrees that the Obama we got wasn't the Obama we were sold on. That's called a majority opinion, not a push poll.

20. I think you need to take a chill pill
And look up the definition of a push poll.

Here, let me help you...

Push poll
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll. In a push poll, large numbers of respondents are contacted, and little or no effort is made to collect and analyze response data. Instead, the push poll is a form of telemarketing-based propaganda and rumor mongering, masquerading as a poll. Push polls may rely on innuendo or knowledge gleaned from opposition research on an opponent. They are generally viewed as a form of negative campaigning.<1> The term is also sometimes used inaccurately to refer to legitimate polls which test political messages, some of which may be negative.

(my emphasis)

some people are posting on this site. BTW, I think your wiki description proves my point...

"A push poll is a political campaign technique in which an individual or organization attempts to influence or alter the view of respondents under the guise of conducting a poll."

That's defines your poll perfectly!

Nothing underhanded about that.

If I had pretended not to have an opinion, you would have liked that, and been neutral towards the poll, right? lol Yeh, right. You betcha. And once again, there are choices that cover the entire spectrum, which is something you will never, ever see on a push poll.

we elect 'politicians'. they will do what they need to do to get elected during the campaign. then, if elected they must govern. actually governing will make some people unhappy. too bad, so sorry. obama is the best i've seen in my lifetime, with the possible exception of jfk. i'll be voting for him again in 2012.
