Desperate, much?..."We Really Miss Reagan"

We Really Miss Reagan

by Abby Zimet

Eager to pay off a $23 million debt racked up by the entertaining but less than competent Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee is selling....errr...honoring Ronald Reagan to mark his 100th birthday this Sunday. A new website offers nostalgic GOPers a "high quality" Reagan bobblehead ($25), the Gipper's fav jelly beans (ditto), a framed photo of his inauguration ($400?!), a bunch of stuff that says we miss him, memorable if way stupid quotes ("There you go again") and a chance to sign a birthday card. No word on how it will be delivered. Desperate, much?

2. Same people who miss Granpa Walton and Andy of Mayberry
:puke:
A couple of differences: Granpa Walton didn't fuck up peoples' lives
and Andy wasn't an idiot.

6. I don't know how they can miss him when...
...we're still suffering from his presidency 30 years later. I guess they don't understand that much of our current situation was based in is administration.

hell, I even miss Nixon & Ford!

I wish the country missed Reagan...we'd be far better off if he never took office.

"Bobblehead" Reagan...how appropriate.

The demographics are not on your side.

10. Interesting that they are skipping right over the Bushes. Note that Reagan is to blame for Bush I.
And without Bush I there would have been no Bush II.

19. Excellent summary!
Here are a couple that need to be remembered because their effects have resonated significantly in the years from 2001 to present:

- arming the Afghan mujahideen - the most fanatic of Afghan rebel factions (yes, there was CIA involvement under Carter, but nothing like under Raygun and not necessarily to the most fanatic factions). Iran-Contra arms also made their way to the fanatic Afghans - and the most fanatic of their Islamic "brothers" (i.e., Bin Laden & later Al Qaeda) as well; clearly CIA "know-how" did too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_war_in_Afghanistan#Foreign_involvement_and_aid_to_the_mujahideen

- laying much of the groundwork for the first major S&L crisis since the Great Depression - groundwork that still hasn't been completely dismantled even though we saw a much worse crisis more recently.

**********

I sincerely hope that Raygun is getting his just desserts in the Great Hereafter.

16. This bastard started the ball rolling to get us where we are.
Reagan sold the industrial base to Asia and gave the treasury to Wall Street. Dubya finished the job.

Edited on Fri Feb-04-11 09:35 AM by denem
in any meaningful way. And there's 22 years of people who DID remember Reagan who have shuffled off this mortal coil.

Next up DNC: I REALLY miss JFK.
