CT-Sen: Blumenthal comes out with killer ad
that will hopefully drive up some of the negatives for Linda McMahon - laying off 10% of her workforce while taking a $46 million in salary will kill McMahon with "Reagan" Democrats and other moderates, as well as the middle and working class. Profits before People.

A lot more in GrannyHelen's diary from Daily Kos, which includes a link to the ad itself.

3. I hope he hits back during the debates as well
All those friggin' mailers I get from her are full of quotes from the Heritage Foundation and similar RW Think Tanks... which, of course, are funded by BIG OIL and BIG COAL and other various RWers.

6. She is simultaneously both
selling her acumen as a businesswoman while divorcing herself from the ugly side of wrestling (steroids, short life span of the wrestlers, etc) by saying it's her husband's business.

8. Well, she keeps gaining ground in the polls
It's gone from 25 to 17 to 10 to 7 to 6.

She's spent like $22 million so far, while Blumenthal has spent $1.7 million - about a 13:1 ratio.

10. He survived 2 major attacks by her and being outspent by 13:1.

I think his new ad is effective and if she couldn't catch him before unless something major happens to turn things I think he will be fine.

11. I hope you are right
and he does hang onto his seat. Plus, I think we have a good chance at winning the governor's race for the first time since 1986!

14. Actually, this will make you happy.
the shift between the 10 point lead for Dick and the 6 point lead for Dick was almost entirely the result of the change in demographic models from the RV (Registered Voter) model to the LV (Likely Voter) model according to Nate Silver in the NY Times. LV polls always shift advantage to the right because Republicans tend to vote in higher percentages than Democrats. What it does not account for though here is that Democrats outnumber GOPers in CT by about 2.4:1 and while CT has more unaffiliated still than Democrats, they tend to lean left.

McMahon has not actually closed any gap in the RV model and her gains since the 10-point lead Quinepiac poll are all likely attributable to the shift in models. Also, those same polls show that McMahon's pretty maxed on her unfavorable % with a very low no-opinion/undecided %...that usually means a candidate has reached their high-water mark.

Two people I trust unquestioningly as understanding this better than I (Charlie Cook and Nate Silver) say it's not a horse race...it's pretty much decided. McMahon had to close the gap by now or pull ahead...she's trailing a popular politician who until recently wasn't even advertising and only campaigning on weekends. He saved his warchest for the sprint finish and he's still ahead...expect him to pull away now that he's opened the coffers and started to run ads.

15. I hope you are right
I'd be miserable if we had McMahon & Lieberman as our senators.

18. I think you are right. Blumenthal is well liked in CT. I have lived here my whole life,
all 34 years and I hear even Repubs say good things about him. She has not pulled to a tie with him and is too negative and quite frankly, embarrassing. I don't see her winning.

16. That would be nice, I am tired to see McMahon's ads every weekend when I visit my MIL
in Southern Mass. A change would be nice.
