Terry Branstad’s campaign illegally purchased two vehicles, violating a law the former Iowa governor signed in 1991.
One of the vehicles is the $52,000 Winnebago Itasca RV that is plastered with Branstad campaign logos.
Iowa campaign law prohibits a campaign from vehicle purchases. Campaigns, instead, are required to lease.
The campaign purchased the vehicles after being given incorrect information from Charlie Smithson, the director of the Iowa Ethics and Campaign Disclosure Board.
Smithson today admitted his error in an interview with The Des Moines Register.
