Perry camp pays Democrat to settle suit over $1 million donation
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry's campaign has paid $426,000 to his 2006 Democratic opponent, Chris Bell, to settle a lawsuit that claimed Perry tried to hide the source of a $1 million contribution.

Democrats said the money came from Houston homebuilder Bob Perry but was relayed through the Washington-based Republican Governors Association to disguise its origin.

Texas voters didn't know about the funding arrangement until after the election.

Details about the settlement appeared in Perry's latest campaign finance report, filed Thursday with the Texas Ethics Commission.
