3. I can't believe what I just saw.
I have not watched wrestling so I was ignorant of what they do.....they are a bunch of sick puppies.
I can't believe we have went so far downhill in the last few years.

4. This is not "Hulk Hogan" wrestling
I can't believe what I just saw either. Those were rape simulations. My kids watched wrestling back in the 80s, but it wasn't anything remotely like this. I can't even comprehend how this happened.

5. If a Democrat running for Senate was involved in things like this, it would be talked about non-stop
On every channel. Faux would discuss it every day and every hour.

6.  Most of us know in Connecticut. Heck, I watched wrestling for years. I won't say the McMahons
should not be allowed to do what they do but they have no moral high ground and when they went after Blumenthal over the Vietnam thing, it was like...but look at what you have done with your company for years Linda. Personally, I find the McMahons pushing of steroids on their workers worse then anything else. I am also pissed at her thinking that she could just buy this Senate seat, as if throwing money at it meant she would win it. That has been her attitude. Ned Lamont is very wealthy as well, lives in the same town of Greenwich. But he is actually trying to earn his way to the Governorship through hard work. Linda should stick with wrestling, the political world is not for her.

7. O M G!
Seeing your subject - I expected I would post that Blumenthal doesn't need to do anything - he is ahead by 18 - 20 points. But - after I never knew how completely disgusting this was. I'm appalled that something this disgusting and sickening drew an audience.

I heard that they were bad and about drugs, but this is beyond sick. It is great that someone have this out there, though it is hard to even watch. How this woman, with a past and a husband like this, has the chutzpah to run for Senate is beyond me.

WHY is Lieberman at all ambivalent in this race?

11. Lieberman has NO moral compass AT ALL at this point in his life.
He was SO gone from New Haven a few years back and he only has a shadow address now in Stamford. He is now a Washington, D.C. figure, as he knows that's where his money and Hadassah's is.

This is cynical, pure and simple...

13. Liberman is a Compleat Republicon - so he's got those perverted Family Values
you can be sure. I mean, imagine him pretending to be a Dem or even an Independent. Just more Family Values RepubliBS.

If he retires in 2012 I bet he says near DC.

12. Don't ask Lieberman for an explanation of ANYTHING!
He is dead to me, to his former community of Orthodox Jews and his other constituents. He has deserted all of us, of our faith in him.

McMahan simply bribed the REpukes by saying she would finance her own campaign. So, great! They didn't have to pony up the money!

No wonder poor Rob Simmons is so upset...

8. It was bad enough in the late 60's. This is filth and vulgar.
The same for all of the spectators.

We really need to put a stop to this crap. I'm going to complain every time USA Today interrupts my Sodoku with WWE videos.

9. It's a fictional TV show.. at the time it was rated TV-14
And had the proper descriptions as well. The wildest stuff mostly aired on WWE Raw, which is on cable. It's a show of both good, bad, and in-between characters. Like any other movie or tv show, if kids were watching it's the parents fault. Unless of course the rest of you support content censorship.

15. "If kids were watching it's the parents fault" -- well maybe, yeah -- but ALSO --
If adults are watching it, and enjoy it so much they feel the need to defend it (like yourself) -- well, I'm not sure who we can originally blame, but there's clearly something wrong going on.

Just sayin'!

16. Why is there clearly something wrong?
And what is wrong with a differing point of view on a TV show or movie? Your assertion of "defending" = something wrong is something wrong in itself. I only defending it because it's the proper thing to do as someone that values freedom and choice. Again, this is a fictional TV show.

Would you say the same of those watching any other shows or movies with potentially offensive stuff, bad guys, violence, sexual situations, humiliating and evil acts etc.... like The Shield, Sopranos, Dexter, NYPD Blue, Oz, 24, Family Guy, South Park, L&Os, CSIs and <insert hundreds of movies here>...

19. Except no-one was advocating removing freedom and choice --
the thing is, there is no especial freedom to make one's own cultural choices without having to fear a little chill from the court of public opinion, if one's choices are somewhat embarassing for grown men or women to make.

And honestly, about the TV shows you mention? I think things like Dexter, Sopranos, and Oz are at least as bad - they're actually worse. At least WWE plays to the sick little 13-year-old boy in the stunted psyches of average folks. Those other three play to the sick little 13-year-old-boy in the stunted psyches of overpaid, overeducated upper-middle-class douchebags who think just because they have the wherewithal to pay extra to get the God Almighty HBO on the box and that they can read gushing, raving reviews for their favored nonsense in the New York Times makes it all somehow "highbrow."

CSI? A ridiculous waste of time. Anything there I do like? South Park somewhat, Family Guy rather less so -- but at least both of those are mainly trying to do good comedy - which is a lot harder to do than crypto-pornography.

20. Well at least I know
where you are coming from regarding TV (and I'm guessing movies too) and your attitude toward their viewers so I can not bother to respond to your posts when similar elements of pop culture comes up. I expect a live and let live attitude on DU with regard to fiction movies/tv/book choices. There are always exceptions.

14. Careful! There's a lot of defenders of exploitative, brain-dead, soul-killing scum culture --
Even here! Think of all the "gamers" who get up in arms over someone voicing mild distaste over the latest brutal murder and/or explicit rape based video game!

"Censorship!" "Elitist!" "How dare you imply I'm emotionally stunted!" etc. etc.

17. What game is based on explicit rape?
Not a gamer, but I do not buy this. Based on rape. A commercial game. And you also claim people defend that? And the distaste you express is mild? Mild? Please explain, with actual facts, thanks.

Also, at least one poster above has already come out with the "censorship" canard over the OP at hand about McMahon's crypto-pornographic WWE or WWF or whatever the hell they're calling it this year, so I'm not totally off about all this stuff.

24. Yeah I got bashed over Batman.
When i said "The Dark Knight" was the most pointless, depression, nihilistic, void-of-positive-human-interaction movie I had ever seen. No positive emotional connections to anyone. And the two women get killed off fairly quickly - there goes half your audience, the female half, that would identify with them.

Starts with a violent bank robbery, the Joker is threatening the girlfriend, telling her how pretty she is and then holding a knife to her throat, the usual explosions and destruction and killing, and the horrible looking two face.

The Joker is a very compulsive methodical sociopath. This I don't need to see, even if it is "good acting". I can see those kind of people in real life. But they don't walk around threatening people and wearing bizarre scary makeup.

This movie says that women don't matter. Only rich white men with money matter. And if they are busy allegedly fighting crime, then it's OK whatever they do.

Absolutely the only redeeming features were the very dignified Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, as servants, and they didn't have enough screen time to redeem the movie.

So technically it was good. Even though all the fighting was shot so closely that you couldn't tell what was going on. I didn't give a damn about ANY of the characters. So what? I'd rather see a movie with an actual non-destructive message shot on Super 8 mm in bad light.

I could say the same thing about Bugsy or The Godfather. No redeeming features to the characters.
