Bill White beats Rick Perry in fundraising for the latest period

Democratic challenger Bill White did slightly better than Gov. Rick Perry in campaign fundraising in the latest reporting period. But they both go into the final four months of their gubernatorial campaign with a healthy war chest. White has $9 million in the bank while Perry reports $5.8 million. The Republican governor burned through a lot of campaign cash during the fractious GOP primary against Kay Bailey Hutchison.

The latest period covers money raised since the March primary. White outraised Perry in the counting -- $7.4 million compared with Perry's $7.1 million. The White campaign says 75 percent of its donors gave $100 or less.

The latest figures bring to $16.6 million the amount White has raised so far in his bid for governor. Perry has raised more overall -- $20 million this election cycle -- but he spent more to stave off the Hutchison challenge in the primary. A Perry campaign breakdown says 87 percent of its contributions are less than $500.

1. Previous elections in Texas have shown that it's votes that count, not money.

Texas is a red state and Democrats have very little chance except in local elections. I live in Tarrant county where a Democrat has less chance than a snow ball in hell.
