Who compares to Abe Lincon
I have noticed that alot of teabaggers and conservatives have invoked Abe Lincon because he was a republican. Lets take a short look at what is widely viewed as our greatest presidents accomplishments. 1. Stood up to "king cotton"-By far the biggest and wealthiest industry of that time. Contrary to popular belief, the south was far wealthier than the north but had all their investments in cotton. Cotton had its allies in the north that made the cotton into fabric. Imagine the risk Abe took to say no to slavery in the new states, then no to slavery altogether. 2. Against the advice of his surgeon general allowed Clara Barton and the nurses on the battlefield saving countless lives through new sterile and disinfecting techniques. Not to mention the mental state of wounded soldiers having someone to comfort them. This led to the world-wide expansion of the Red Cross. This was all accomplished against the will of most of the doctors at the time. 3. Progressive income tax-Levied an income tax to pay for the war where the rich paid a higher rate and the poor paid nothing.
4. Risked everything and eventually gave his life for civil rights. The United States was one of the last countries to do away with slavery. To the south it was about business and money, to the north it was about doing what was right and being a good christian. So we have the following- regulation of big business, healthcare reform progressive income tax and an advancement in civil rights. I find this to be interesting, since most of what our greatest president stood for, conservatives, teabaggers, and republicans in general stand against.

He followed what he knew to be right. The letter behind his name didn't matter.
