Is Craig Crawford on something? "Don't Fire McChrystal"

Don't Fire McChrystal

By Craig Crawford | June 22, 2010 9:00 AM | Permalink | Comments (3)

Won't it take even longer to get out of Afghanistan if we get another general who restarts the clock?

Pres. Obama and his White House war team have good reason to be angry about Gen. Stanley McChrystal's dumb comments in a Rolling Stone profile.

But what we can surmise from the news of his work, McChrystal is making progress toward stabilizing things enough for us to eventually (or mostly) get out. Sure, make him grovel a bit, but keep him on task.

LOL.
What progress?

3. It isn't a pullout date. It is the date to start drawing down the surge.
It doesn't have any connection or bearing on an actual withdrawal. THere is no timeline, no rate of drawdown and no end date.

2. Fire, replace, withdraw
You fire him, bring in the next guy to tell you to withdraw and hold less ground, mostly near the Pakistan border. Blame it on Karzai, blame it on McCrystal, blame it on Gates, I don't care, but change strategy NOW.

4. That makes no sense
Why would a new general restart the clock. Most people who take the place of their predecessors just take up where the other leaves off. Especially when the CEO is setting out the guidelines and time frame.

5. Next general can finish up--doubt he'll be allowed to come up with a
whole new strategy and start over. That's just silly. And no one is irreplaceable.

6. Craig's an idiot and McChrystal should be fired. The Afgan
war strategy that McChrystal calls a "bleeding ulcer" is the one he talked Obama into supporting.

He needs to go and so do a bunch of his aides. Insubordination from the highest ranks cannot be tolerated, and his Afgan policy isn't working.
