Democrats put hope in the 'Great White'

Houston Mayor Bill White has been mulling his decision to jump into the governor's race for a week.

Sources close to News 8 said he's set to officially announce his bid on Friday, but just after one week, Texas Democrats have a new sense of hope.

Some are even calling him the "Great White."

Texas Democrats are confident that White's candidacy will reinvigorate their party.

"We ought to be pretty competitive," Rep. Mark Strama, D-Austin, said.

With White as the candidate, Democrats who were saving for a rainy day said they've got a good one. They're hopeful for what the "Great White" can bring to the race for governor.
