Kerry, Lieberman on the President's address.
Senators John Kerry, D-Mass., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.: "This could be a historic leadership moment. President Obama used his first-ever Oval Office address to call for the passage of comprehensive energy and climate legislation. There can be no doubt that the president is rolling up his sleeves to ensure we establish a market mechanism to tackle carbon pollution, create hundreds of thousands of new jobs each year, strengthen energy independence and improve the quality of the air we breathe. We will continue working with colleagues from both sides of the aisle to pass comprehensive reform this summer."

3. Someone does get it. Let's get this done Kerry and Lieberman.
I think this will increase Obama's ratings too which will be good to push a gulf coast bill.

4. What's odd to me is that people don't realize this was an opening.
A small opening at that. This speech is not/was not the end all, it's a beginning to a necessary discussion. I'm glad to see the statement from the above. Thanks Prosense.

5. Reid's comment..oh, and michael steele showed his ass again..
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.: "President Obama presented a path to energy independence in his speech tonight that strengthens our economy and protects our environment. He made a compelling case that America cannot delay our pursuit of a national clean energy strategy that makes us more competitive globally."

I won't sully my post with the ms quote but did you read it?

11. My thoughts too. He will approve of it, until his corporate masters
tell him to oppose it.

12. Unfortunately Senator, most Americans don't care about Climate Change
There is a lot of "Who Cares" around this issue, especially in the Black Community. People feel that jobs and the economy are important right now. Plus, there is still the stigma that the environment is a "white liberal issue."

Obama's address was geared towards updating the citizens of the Gulf Coast (some will say the American Idol/Reality TV Generation) about the oil disaster.

If Obama really cared about the issue (not doubting that he doesn't), he would have had a brief mention of it, or say something that would influence the dysfunctional Senate to get the 60 votes you need to pass this law.
