ABC News Absolves Obama of Oil Spill Blame by Bashing Sarah Palin
Source: newsbusters

snip>

This was Sarah Palin this morning.

(Begin Videotape)

SARAH PALIN: I don't know why the question isn't asked by the mainstream media and by others if there's any connection with the contributions made to President Obama and his administration and the support by the oil companies to the administration."

(End Videotape)

KLEIN: Really striking, Dan, from the woman who of course popularized that phrase "Drill, baby, drill!"

HARRIS: Right, and the Republicans certainly take their share of donations from the oil industry.

You got that?

1. I saw that tonight.
I've been wondering for a long time when the Republicans would shut her up. Now just might be the time.

2. Just saw her on Faux News (in the gym) claiming that Obama
is going easy on the Oil Industry because of HIS TIES TO BIG OIL!!!

I filled out a complaint form asking the management to change the channel permanently on their tvs on the grounds that Faux is perpetrating lies and slander and I'm offended by it. I'm sure I'm outnumbered 3-1 by people who watch only Faux and believe what they see there.

11. Why
were you watching Fox News to begin with?

16. Because that's what's on in the gym and I wasn't watching it, but
every so often my eyes flick up above the level of my machine & I see the banner below the picture on the TV screen. Usually I can ignore it, but tonight it was just too much for me.

17. We noticed in an article this morning
that she's pulling out her "I took on Big Oil and the good ol' boys" schtick that she hasn't used in a while. Another oldie but goodie that she deployed to fool Alaskans into voting for her back when she was running for governor.

3. ROF. Palin is a real trip. Find somebody in Washington
who_hasn't_been oiled by BP, especially her buddy McCain, who got at least twice as much $$ from BP in 08.

4.  this time the dimwit is correct...
BP contributed more to obama than any other candidate...and we should also ask ourselves why BP was exempt from an EPA study on safety.

5. Corporations don't contribute. Legal fail.
Oh, and your contention about "BP was exempt from an EPA study" is also a factual fail.

6. BP employees thousands of people, with Obama's large win I'd venture to guess
that many employees supported him. These contributions count as coming "from BP". I've contributed to candidates and as you know, had to give my place of work, so my contribution could be seen as coming from my company. And I guarantee you, I was the only one in my company sending a contribution to Obama.

These don't paint an accurate picture.

13. All politicians receive contributions from corporations, and your implication is disgusting
You are effectively spouting the rw talking points that Obama is responsibile for the this disaster

I would like to remind you that the from 2000 to 2008 the whitehouse was controlled by big oil, and the safety values that might have prevented what happened in the gulf, and approved under Clinton, was removed by bushco

27. Been thoroughly debunked a thousand times all ready.
Obama has gotten more contributions than any candidate in history. So you could take that sentence you wrote and replace BP with just about any company or special interest group and it would likely be true.

When counting up BP contributions, that means every single person that ever worked for BP in any capacity. If you are a cashier working at a BP gas station and you contributed to Obama, thats a contribution counted from BP. If you are a cleaning lady in a BP office building or a security guard in a BP parking garage, thats a contribution counted from BP.

The vast majority of Obama's contributions came from nonbundled individuals, thats an undisputable fact.

The dimwit is not right and neither are the other dimwits that try push that lie.

7. I checked who received the most BP contributions. It's easy to Google.
I'm not doing it again. The Republicans are by far the biggest recipients. Obama was just the least objectionable of the Democrats to BP's employees.

Sorry, but a presidential candidate who makes it to the end
Edited on Mon May-24-10 07:14 AM by Mass
gets more money from anybody than any other candidate from the same party, particularly if he does not take public financing from the general. BP employees come in all flavor, and this is what these numbers reflect. So, aside from the fact that the source posted is a RW rag that should not even be posted on DU, your point is bull.

I misremembered my own data. Obama actually got almost twice as much from BP as McCain in 08, but McCain topped the list as highest recipient from all the gas and oil corps, combined. By a lot.

15. McCain couldn't accept donations during the GE because he took public funds,
Obama did throughout.....so the math is skewed to begin with.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=433x310879

snip//

So far in 2010, the oil and gas industries have contributed $12.8 million to all candidates, with 71% of that money going to Republicans. During the 2008 election cycle, 77% of the industry's $35.6 million in contributions went to Republicans, and in the 2008 presidential contest, Republican candidate Sen. John McCain received more than twice as much money from the oil and gas industries as Obama: McCain collected $2.4 million; Obama, $898,000.

14. no sarah does not have fans here, this is flame bait
Progressive democrats would like Obama to move back from the right wing to the center or left, please don't mis-characterize criticism as rw hatred.

Intense criticism of policy and action is not the same as hating someone for their ethnicity.
