better Democrat: Blanche Lincoln, Ben Nelson... or... Scott Brown?

I gotta hand it to Scott Brown for one thing... he knows his constituency.

He's been as reliable a "Democratic" vote as either Blance or Ben have been.

.... and he's royally pissing off the freepers.... and that's always a good thing.

He's only likely to be a Senator until November of 2012.... but he's not the automatic "NO" that we feared.

6. Definitely not Scott Brown. He's not the only Republican to vote for
the bill. I believe Grassley did as well and he's still a huge asshole.

One vote does not a man make.

8. Sorry, got to side with Ben and Blanche here
They aren't reliable on all votes, but they cast their votes for a Democrat as Majority Leader. You think Scott Brown is going to vote for a Democrat over Mitch McConnell? Absolutely not.

9. Scott Brown is a moderate Republican, Lincoln and Nelson are conservative Dems.
Edited on Fri May-21-10 07:08 PM by Jennicut
On social issues, guess who is better? Lincoln is better then Brown (who is somewhat pro-choice), who is better then Nelson (who is pro-life).

You can see all their stances on the issues here: http://www.ontheissues.org/senate

10. He biked with Kerry the other day
I would not be shocked if he jumped ship. I think he likes his new job and is thinking about how much he'd like to keep it.

Watch for him to go against the GOPers on some more stuff. If he starts looking like he's pretty solid on the (D) side when it comes to voting, expect him to jump over to the (D) column officially in late '11.

And I don't care how much he likes his job, he's gone in 2012.

13. If he were to jump ship. he can expect Specter's fate. We have real dems in the state.
More likely, he wants to be reelected in a state where GOPers dont matter.

14. Cycling with Kerry really does not mean that he would consider jumping ship
They both like cycling - and it was smart of Kerry to use that link to gain a lot of time to convince Brown to switch his cloture vote.

It's not clear that he would benefit from changing parties. The Republicans would likely not primary him as they would then have a harder time keeping the seat. For Brown, he gets lots more attention as a Republican who crosses over (like Snowe and Collins) than as a conservative Democrat. He is less likely to be in Specter's shoes in the republican party, because the MA Republican party has to know that he is lucky fluke - and if they primary him, they will lose the seat.

15. He's now the swing vote ...

He replaces Nelson in that role among Democrats and Collins among Republicans.

The only people who really thought he was an automatic "NO" were news pundits who don't know anything anyway and the Teabaggers Brown used to get in office.

19. Scott Brown is up for re-election in 2012 in Massachusettes
if he gets re-elected he isn't going to be a reliable Dem vote. he will side with the wingnuts until the last 1-2 years when he starts worrying about re-election again.
