POLL: Crist Could Win as an Independent
Crist Could Win as an Independent

A new Quinnipiac poll in Florida finds Marco Rubio (R) has a huge lead over Gov. Charlie Crist (R) in their primary race for U.S. Senate, 56% to 33%.

In general election match ups, Rubio leads Rep. Kendrick Meek (D), 42% to 38%, while Crist leads Meek by an even wider margin, 48% to 34%.

Interestingly, if Crist were to run as an independent in the general election, he would get 32%, followed by Rubio at 30% and Meek at 24%. Perhaps this is why some of his advisers are pushing him to drop the primary race.

Said pollster Peter Brown: "Crist appears a great deal more viable in a November three-way than he is against Rubio in a Republican primary. But having already ruled out an independent candidacy, he would have to reverse himself by the end of the month due to the filing deadline. Such a public reversal might be politically harmful to the governor, but perhaps not compared to his chances against Rubio at this point."

2. Rubio was at Ring Power in St. Augustine yesterday.
Telling them the Stimulus was a total failure.

I'm not sure if this franchise would be open without the Stimulus.

He needs to go down.

Email Charlie and tell him to run as an (I). He would be a much better Senator than this ass.

4. Huh?
He (Rubio) was scheduled to be in my Cow Town today (Teabagging) but pulled out due to his father's illness. The press issue also stated he had canceled all appearances as of Tuesday. Weasel!

7. I have been saying for months this is Crist's Best shot
If he were to position himself as what would be the GOP equivalent of the DLC. (Fiscally conservative, but pragmatic, socially moderate) He would rake in the Bucks nationally and quickly rise to superstar status with Moderates. {articularly If he pitched this as someone needs to "stop the insanity".

Opportunistic? Sure.... but Kendrick Meek has no shot. and it would beat the hell out a Senator Rubio.

20. The Meek vs Rubio polling has been very close
That said I'd put my money on Rubio just because it's a Republican year.

8. He should totally run as a "D" or "I"
I sensed it during the GE that Crist leaned more towards the Dems when he extended the voting hours. The 'pukes were livid. He refuses to get involved with the gay marriage issue. We will really see what he's made of when he makes a decision on this merit pay bill.

It's an open secret here in FL that he's gay, and leaving the repukes would be the respite he needs to follow the political philosophy of his choosing.

9. You can put your money on it.. Crist is running as an "I" and will most likley win.
These numbers are too compeling for Crist and his advisors to ignore.

11. Not only that, there are a lot of republicans and independents who are
pissed off at the repukes in control right now. IF he can show he has leadership and courage to veto SB 6 and turns I or D, he'll gain a tremendous amount of support.

12. When is that veto going to happen?
BTW, I think there will be more switches to Independent as the GOP further implodes due to Teabagger activism.

Funny thing is two weeks ago he supported the bill.

15. In agreement...
I know a lot of them here in St. Johns county who are alarmed with the sharp-right turn of Rubio and the actions of Thrasher, etc.

I don't really care who's independent or what, as long as progressive values are pursued. Many of the blue-dog dems are as bad as the republicans--you can't tell much of a difference.

10. IF Crist has the guts to veto SB 6 and turn I or D, he will surely win.
He will gain an entire new base of supporters if he has the courage to veto that horrible bill which dismantles public education in this state. If he doesn't veto SB 6 he can fall off the face of the earth for all I care.

I didn't expect for Meek to pull that close.

18. Then let him pull a Liberman and run that way. As far as Repubs go,
I would rather see him win than the Tea Party candidate.
