My response to right wing co-worker's comments on facebook
He posted that "Obama is the most unamerican president in our history. BY FAR!"

Here is what I wrote:

The most un-American President in our history? Really? Elected by the most popular votes (66,862,039) of any president ever in the history of our country with a larger electoral victory(365-173) than Bush had in either election? Come on Mike. Just because you don't like the outcome of the election doesn't mean it was un-American. Barack Obama, like it or not, was elected in a democratic process prescribed by our Constitution. The majority of Americans apparently liked the platforms President Obama ran on thus he was elected. That means he gets to now carry out those platforms if he can and, yes, he can use political arm twisting to do so (Just as every other President has done before him). When Bush won by many less popular and electoral votes he said, "I have political capital and I'm gonna spend it." And he did.

You asked to explain how the repubs got their asses handed to them. Here is a brief (but not all inclusive list):... See More

President Obama beat the republican candidate soundly (whoopin' 1). President Obama thrashed the republicans at their Q&A on healthcare summit (whoopin' 2). He got the health insurance bill passed against a sea of lies and rhetoric put forth by the tea party, republicans, and it's media wing Fox News (whoopin' 3). There will be many more legislative victories by this president and this Congress as long as the republicans remain stuck in their rhetorical delusional irrational frenzy they have worked themselves and decent patriotic people like you into.

David Frum, GWB speechwriter and bona fide conservative said in a recent article that the intransitive stance the republicans have taken by tying themselves closely to the radical elements of the Tea Party movement is going to cost them dearly in the forthcoming elections. He correctly points out that this health care bill, far from being socialism or communism, closely resembles the legislation pushed by Republican favorite Mitt Romney in Massachusetts and the original republican counter plan to Bill Clinton's healthcare proposal in the 1990's created by radical socialists Robert Dole and The Heritage Foundation.

3. retort
Bush/Cheney was so awful that America elected a black pot smoking, coke sniffing, Kenyan born Muslim with the middle name "Hussain" to replace him.

4. Only one factual error ... Bush did not win in 2000, and 2004 is questionable. n/t

10. As an Ohioan I can guarantee you that he did NOT win in '04 as well. We have
the evidence archived and all we need is a fair court of law (and a party with some balls) to prove it.

20. Red states are questionable too...
Can anyone doubt it. For those who didn't know who these crooks are I hope many more eyes have been opened to the lies...

13. The only response to that is to say "Well they must be the majority then."
"That means they get to call the shots now." (take some popcorn and just sit back and watch the reaction)

6. Born with out wealth or privilege, he has worked hard to change
his country with in the political system.

If that is "un american", I'm not clear on what it means to be an "American".

12. Nicely done. I don't know how you keep your cool, though. The willful ignorance just pushes my
rage buttons these days. I just got an email today from an old hippie friend of ours, with a bunch more of that crowd on the cc list, about how awful congress is because, in the latest of their evil deeds, they voted themselves exempt from the health care reform.

I checked Snopes and it was basically a pack of lies. Not that I don't agree that there's a lot not to like about Congress, but it makes me crazy when people are willing to believe anything that legitimizes their anger and to pass along the lies.

So, I "replied all" and wrote, "Stop spreading tea-bagger lies!" Followed by the Snopes link. Then I added, "And be sure to send this to at least 20 people (as the original had demanded we do with the lies.)

Then, not wanting to hear from any of them, I blocked all of the names except the ones of people we've stayed in touch with.

I later wished I had added something to the effect of, "What on earth has happened to you once open-minded, intelligent people that you blindly believe, and forward, every bitchy emailscreed you receive?"

I guess it's better I didn't. Some day I'll learn to put on a big smile and be diplomatic when refuting RW lies...maybe... if I live another 50 years or so!

Nice closing rhetorical flourish! I am sure your co-worker read that and, at the point where I was laughing outloud, he will look like he just bit into a lemon!

16. I feel Obama is more concerned about the majority...
rather than the minority.

The middle class and the poor are the majority.
