Someone a few days ago noted that Pres. Obama is the first President that has had a major TV program 24/7 devoted to bringing him down. He has been strong and resolute. Many folks who profess love for Obama are often bashing fellow DU'ers. I don't understand. You at least have a chance of persuading fellow DU'ers and having an honest and open communication, meeting of minds and hearts.

Politics in this country have devolved to nothing more than a popularity contest involving different sports teams, to root for, maskeraded as political parties.

Whether there is actual reform or not, or whether the average citizen is going to have access to human health care which does not involve having to chose between the treatment of their disease and the entitlement to profit by a few corporations, all that is irrelevant. The only goal is to "win" and there is not even any attempt at defining what a "win" is. Narrative and perception, as usual in America, have priority over intellectual honesty and reality.

terms of wins or losses. I was providing an example about how people use the word 'love' loosely without meaning it in a family/spouse/friend- love way. Here is another one (non-sports related): When I say I "love" ice cream cones, I do not mean I love them like I love my spouse, I am just giving them props for being delicious and filling my belly.

I support HCR. I give props to Obama/Pelosi/Congress. I hate most of the win/loss crap. In fact, I am writing my entire dissertation on the media's pathetic obsession with horserace garbage. This does not, however, prevent us from celebrating legislation that many of us believe is a positive step for the country.

I'd love to hear a rationale for hiring Goldman Sachs alumni as his big financial guys. He could have hired Robert Reich, Liz Warren, very sharp financial minds who stick up for average folks but instead he went with the always dysfunctional foxes guarding the hen house approach. How has that worked out? To me that was a clear signal that this guy was another republican lite like Clinton. Left of the republican party to be sure, but that bar could not be lower these days.

I also believe we could have had a much better health care bill and sooner with stronger leadership and stronger use of the enormous political capital he started with - capital that he largely wasted.

Hope you all understand that there will be real losers among people with the passage of this bill.

My views are much more inline with Weiner and Grayson and Michael Moore than Obama, because Obama has turned out to be same old same old. We're still fighting the same 2 stupid expensive (in a lot of ways) wars, we're still being spied on. I worked hard to elect Obama because I foolishly believed what he said he would do while running. I've been around awhile, I should know better, but he seemed different - and sadly he's really not in a political sense.
