King Obesity's Realm by Ralph Nader
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 10:02 PM by LoZoccolo
“Why,” he continued, “just a few days before Michelle Obama’s multimedia White House event announcing ‘Let’s Move’ with former NFL runner, Tiki Barber, Barack Obama was with a group of schoolchildren. As if being at the White House was not enough excitement for the students, what did Mr. Obama do? He presented each of them with a box of red, white and blue M&Ms imprinted with the Presidential seal and his signature, no less.”

I didn't really read much of the rest of the article; I basically posted it to show you that red, white, and blue M&Ms are the kind of thing that Ralph Nader thinks is important while he thinks there is little difference between two candidates where one of them starts a war on dubious pretenses, makes an incompetent appointment which leaves people in peril during a natural disaster, appoints Supreme Court justices which affirm corporate personhood to influence elections, and doesn't really believe in global warming.

3. Oh boy- let the narrow minded and obsessive hate fest begin!
Actually, if you're a big supporter of the junk food industry- there really isn't much to like in the article.

that pops up in GD and GDP where people accuse him of everything from sandbagging the health care bill to causing both World Wars.

10. That's true to an extent

On the other hand, Emmanuel was one of the major architects of the 1994 disaster- and he actually has used his power to promote the corporatist right (and damage the nation in in the process through a series of ill considered policies).

People can say what they will about Nader's decision to run (even blaming him for 2004's debacle and the extreme and unethical Supreme Court appointees that he predicted Democrats would confirm) but the bottom line is that he didn't magically create a constituency through some Svengali like charisma- that constituency was created by DLC Democrats and waiting for some figure of prominence to give a voice to it.

Moreover- and this is where I tend to fall on the matter: Nader's been proven correct about the consequences of damn near EVERY ill fated policy that Democrats and Republicans alike have pushed though congress or adopted via administrative procedures at the agencies.

Me- I listen to those who repeatedly get it right- because I myself like getting it right both in terms of public policy and in decisions I make in my own life and for clients or companies I've worked for and with.

12. And yet instead of rolling up his sleeves and saying
"What can I do to help?", Ralph sits back and snipes at the people who are trying to govern the country. Whether you think he's correct or not isn't the issue--if he's not going to help, he should shut his piehole.

in the trenches- often with little or no help from and often in opposition to so called "Democrats" -in many cases the very same Democrats who promoted and passed policies that have- one after another, caused the nation's decline.

Far from "shutting their pieholes" he and others need to speak louder- and start targeting (regardless of party affiliation) the corrupt and complicit who are at the root of the problems.

Such as those blocking the Volcker rule, for example:

Of course not- it's much easier to be a shallow wanker- ignore the issues and repeat what you're read from others on the thread.

But it's so much easier for you to refer to me as a "shallow wanker" than to acknowledge that your hero Uncle Ralphie is a doddering has-been with nothing substantial to add anymore.

29. To keep Nader irrelevant, and to prevent and/or defeat emergent splinterism.
It is a principal not dissimilar to the idea that it we should learn our history in order not to repeat it.

What would he prefer--that Obama give the kids carob chips and say "THEY'RE GOOD FOR YOU!"?

13. Here's an idea. If Ralph wants to be taken seriously
he should get elected to some office and hold it for awhile - - Senator, Representative, dog catcher, anything - - - rather than just be a shit stirrer. Of course, it's more fun to be a shit stirrer.

Yeah, right, Ralph. The president of the freaking United States gives you a souvenir of probably the coolest moment of your young life and all you can think about is eating it. :eyes:

Besides, you nitwit, Clinton was first with the commemorative M&Ms, and Reagan beat them both with the free candy thing (jelly beans).

Give it up, Ralph. You're downright irrelevant.

20. A few people have been telling the truth for years and years.

They’ve got a set of Republican waiters on one side and a set of Democratic waiters on the other side, but no matter which set of waiters brings you the dish, the legislative grub is all prepared in the same Wall Street kitchen.”
— Huey Long

Unfortunately the majority of people prefer the elaborate illusion.

He used to be a good consumer advocate, then his ego got huge. It is more sad then anything else.
