Crist: No regrets on stimulus
Edited on Tue Feb-23-10 04:07 PM by Jennicut
Speaking to reporters outside the White House after meeting with President Obama, some of the nation's governors said they "covered a wide variety of issues" and pledged to work with both parties on breaking through Capitol Hill "gridlock."

"Governors, after all, have to get things done," said Jim Douglas, Republican of Vermont. "Governors across America have already made tough choices" on budgets, he said. On raising education standards, Douglas said it was "something we believe strongly."

Discussing stimulus spending, Douglas said it is "not the whole answer to states fiscal crises." Florida's Charlie Crist, a Republican, said he doesn't
regret embracing Obama or stimulus money. "None whatsoever," he said when asked.

"I don't apologize for it at all," he said. "It was the right thing to do. We needed the money. It saved 87,000 jobs for our state."

"I was raised to respect the presidency of the United States," he added. "And the man who occupies the office now and I don't agree on everything, but by golly, when we agree on something, and that means helping the people of the state I was elected to govern, I'm going to be there and I'm going to thank him."

Even Christ thinks the stimulus helped his state...Of course, Repubs in his state are not going to be appreciative.

2. Heh. I think he will lose to Rubio anyway in the primary.
Rubio called his support of the stimulus "horrifying". Hey, might be better for the Dem in that race if Rubio wins. Then again, Rubio is worse then Christ.
