Brown Gets Kennedy's Seat But Not His Desk
Brown Gets Kennedy's Seat But Not His Desk

Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) will be taking over the late Sen. Edward Kennedy's Senate seat today, but not Kennedy's desk, the AP reports.

An aide says Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) "is claiming the mahogany desk on the Senate floor, which Kennedy used for nearly 47 years. Until now, Kerry has been seated at the desk once used by Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, the late senator's assassinated brother."

1. Would be nice if they could let the family
have it. It doesn't seem right for another person to use it and ESPECIALLY not a damn Republican!

4. Read the OP - it didn't go to a Republican, it went to a Democrat who the Kennedys have
known and liked for decades - Senator Kerry.

The desks are the desks on the Senate floor, not his office (or hide away office) furniture. There are 100 of them and the tradition is that each Senator who uses one carves his name in the drawer.

15. I know Senator Kerry got it!
I just said I thought it would be nice, seeing it was in his possession for so long. Okay?

2. Hopefully the desk is high enough to hide Senator Softcore's junk when he is at it.

6. This is totally normal - and I would bet there was no one Senator Kennedy
would prefer getting it. It would never have gone to a junior Senator, especially one who was Republican. Some one once posted a really nice list of all the names carved into seats - by the fact that many names were on several, there is switching.

12. What? I would think that Sen. Kerry getting this desk would be what Ted Kennedy would want.
What is your problem with Kerry? Or are you a not so secret Brown admirer?

16. I think it's a high school desk
It looks way too big to be a kindergarten desk.

11. This is somehow how it should be. It is a historic desk with a lot of Democratic history.
It would be a slap in the face to allow Brown - an egotistical, opportunist - anywhere near it. He has not been elected to express the will of the people and to fight for them-he is a hired hand of the RW talk radio in Mass. Republicans and the Tea Party'ers- and his job is to do their bidding and be an obstructionist.
