Bill Clinton is the best ex-president of the United States. Whatever you thought of him as president, you have to accept he has become one of the greatest humanitarians on earth.

Some may say Jimmy Carter, who won the Nobel Prize, is the greatest ex-prez, but I think Clinton wins it. He is simply a more inspirational figure.

Yesterday, as UN special envoy, Clinton met with the injured in Haiti and promised massive support. The sight of him helping the earthquake victims was at once compelling and uplifting. Here was American soft power at its best, along with the troops President Obama has sent and the joint work that former presidents George Bush and Clinton will undertake together for Haiti.

Nobody believes that he has one selfless bone in his body. He's a tried and true meglomainiac. An intelligent man, no doubt but not empathetic in the least... no, Bill Clinton really doesn't FEEL our pain with his new found MILLIONS. He poses with his "new organization" and drags Chelsea and her Goldman Sachs Fiancee around with him. Wow, how giving and charitable? :eyes:

I'd venture to believe that NOT ONE would consider Bill Clinton's character any better than that of an super-intelligent OPPORTUNIST and/or Con-artist.

Just because someone has a high intelligence, doesn't make him an humanitarian. Honestly, the only charity that Bill Clinton cares about, deep down, is nurturing his giant ego. :shrug:

He has had more vigor than most former presidents and retains most of his political skills.

Obama will be the same way... he will be active and around for a long time.

My problem with Clinton is that since George W Bush left the White House, he has consistently worked to legitimize Bush, who is a war criminal and miscreant who I think ought to be shunned, not openly assisted in regaining public approval.

When Bush wanted to test the public waters earlier this year, it was Bill Clinton traveled with him to Canada where the two sat on the same stage at the same time having a swell time before a right wing business audience.

I think the idea here was for Clinton to use his prestige 9and his popularity in Canada) to convey the impression that Bush was a welcome visitor to Canada, and that Bush has important messages to deliver.

Since Clinton was instrumental to this PR effort, he has pretty well been dead to me ever since.

I was therefore not at all surprised, earlier this week, with the announced Clinton-Bush Haiti fundraising gig.

I am annoyed by it, and especially disappointed that Obama played along and politicized the matter by naming Bush co-chair. But I'm not totally surprised by Clinton, since he has been providing PR services to Bush for at least the past year now. I presume Bush and his oil cronies are paying top dollar for Clinton's services.

That disappoints me too, but it is something that at least seems to have some political logic to it.

Providing PR servcies to George W Bush, however, has zero political logic to it.

Which means Clinton is shilling for Bush either because he actually respects Bush and thinks his reputation ought to be rehabilitated, or he is doing it for money.

Given the preposterousness of the former, I presume his motivation is money.

them both to help raise funds for this disaster.

As for corruption and war crimes, Clinton let Papa Bush and his criminal friends off the hook also. He stopped the investigation and let them all go free, so they came back again when Baby Bush took over the WH.

We are being fooled, and are foolish to support any of them as people rather than judge them only on the issues. We are not in their club and never will be. But, we do pay their salaries while they are in office and we pay for all of the nice perks they get. Therefore they are supposed to answer to us, and yet, they do not. What are we doing wrong?

As for Bush and Clinton's latest act, I would not donate to anything that has the name Bush on it, and I resent the efforts of Obama and Clinton to try to manipulate our opinions on the Bush crime family.
