Steele Lashes Out: Critics Should ‘Get a Life,’ ‘Shut Up,’

ABC News’ Aaron Katersky and Rick Klein report: RNC Chairman Michael Steele is lashing out his critics, with a series of blunt messages for prominent Republicans who have blasted him over his leadership for the Republican Party.

“I tell them to get a life. That’s old Washington, that’s old ways, and I don’t represent that, and that kills them,” Steele told ABC News Radio in an interview today.

“I’m telling them and I’m looking them in the eye and say I’ve had enough of it. If you don’t want me in the job, fire me. But until then, shut up. Get with the program or get out of the way.”

Steele was responding to a series of reports -- most recently in today’s Washington Times -- where prominent GOP operatives and fund-raisers have criticized Steele for seeming to focus more on his own image (and pocketbook) rather than the good of the party.

Responded Steele: “Some of my prior chairmen who are running their mouths right now -- how many farm teams did you build as chairman?”

“All I’m saying is cut it out. If we have party differences that are inside the party, let’s deal with them inside the party. You don’t see the Democrats running around trying to beat up their national chairman or embarrass him.”

And when Steele says "That's old Washington, that's old ways...." what he means is "I not-so-secretly want to be the teabagger king."

4. Oh, I won't.....
.... I'm a little worried this may be happening too soon ... because he's certainly done WONDERS for the party and I want him around to do more damage ... UNLESS he's replaced with a more moderate chairman and the split between the two halves of the party becomes even greater ... THAT would be a good thing.

7. I'll take the day after Election Day, Wednesday, November 3, 2010.
He'll snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory and will be dismissed following huge GOP losses in the midterms. But, he'll do it in his Hip-hop GOP style!

15. Did anyone really think that the GOP would tolerate a black man for long?
Sitting on those white hats and robes must get uncomfortable eventually.

18. Dude's in a No-Win situation..
First, he only got the job because Republicans FREAKED that America actually elected a Black President.. so they didn't want to appear to be racist.. so they voted for the only non-white person available for the job.

Second, there own party doesn't know what it wants. 1/3 of them are Tea-bagging freaks who want no government involvement.. 1/3 are Bible Thumping Freaks who want the government involved in making sure that Abortion becomes illegal and Gay people can never marry and the last 1/3 just wants us to head off to war with whatever country is next alphabetically on the hit list. And, all of those sides don't agree on everything.. the "no government" people don't much care if Gay people get married and they don't want to be at war with anyone. The Bible Thumpers aren't all against Government Healthcare.. many of their churches have told them that it's good to take care of their sick brothers & sisters (but then after church they watch FOX news and get all confused again).

Steele's problem is that he doesn't know which 1/3 of Conservatives to lead.. and he's not sure who's side he's suppose to be on. Right now he's just playing the "I'M AGAINST OBAMA" game. It might be working slightly right now.. but when issues arise as the '12 election gets closer, that's going to become more difficult. Are you pro or anti government Steele? War or no War? etc.

Edited on Thu Jan-07-10 02:43 PM by OregonBlue
Let's all write to the RNC and tell them to please, please leave Michael Steele alone because he is doing such a good job and we need an African American man to counter Obama so the GOP won't seem racist.

25. Follow Up: "GOP Hill Aides Sound Off On Steele: 'You Really Need To Have Him Be Quiet'"
GOP Hill Aides Sound Off On Steele: 'You Really Need To Have Him Be Quiet'

Republican aides in the House and Senate have had enough of RNC chair Michael Steele's big mouth, according to a new report from inside a closed GOP conference call. Aides on the Hill are upset with Steele's repeated controversial interviews in the press and his recent comments that Republicans may not be "ready to lead."

Reid Wilson gets the scoop on a tense daily press call with RNC staff, reporting that one angry aide called Steele a "fool" and another told RNC press staff, "you really need to have him be quiet." The aides told RNC staff Steele was "ruining what should be several days of glowing press for the GOP" after a string of high-profile Democratic retirements.

Wow, this sounds remenicent of something racially motivated. It's about to get really ugly for the GOP if they go after him.
