U.S. v. Mexico coming up (9 p.m. Eastern)

For Central and North America Gold Cup.

Pasadena Rose Bowl is venue. Nearly 100,000 fans packing stadium. U.S. is home team, but there are probably more Mexican fans.

Even if you are not a football fan, it is worth seening the scene, at least for a couple of minutes. It is spectacular.

I am watching on Univision. Think Fox Soccer has it in English.

1. Man, I'll bet the food smells good.
But you can't get me anywhere near the Rose Bowl when this is going on, it's worse than New Years.

3. Mexico wins again

USA get kudos for effort, Mexico gets kudos for talent.

Mexico 4, USA 2.

4. US was up 2-0 in the beginning, got their hopes up!
Here's the game ending goal (still some time left but the US never made it up): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsE5lJh-s5E

I don't think the US will ever win international football, but I'm glad we participate and there are Americans who love the sport (Latin American culture is permeating the southwest here in the states, which is why I took it upon myself to learn Spanish).

The sports facilities nearby (soccer field, volleyball nets, running track) would go unused were it not for Latinos. I dunno why but a lot of Caucasian people in my view don't enjoy sports for the pure enjoyment of it.

5. Police respond to Mexico soccer celebrations in several areas around L.A.
Police late Saturday were responding to large celebrations breaking out on the streets of Huntington Park after Mexico defeated the U.S. 4-2 at soccer's Gold Cup game at the Rose Bowl.

Metro reported that seven bus lines -- the 60, 108, 110, 111, 251, 611, 612 -- were being detoured due to police activity in the area around Pacific Boulevard, Gage Avenue and Florence Avenue.

There were also reports of some fan disruptions in East Los Angeles.
