Brazilian, Venezuelan presidents discuss trade, regional development
15:04, May 10, 2011

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff on Monday met with her Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez for discussion on bilateral trade and regional development.

The two presidents were eager to consolidate the good bilateral relations that were built under the administration of Brazil's former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva who formed a close ally with Chavez, said the Brazilian foreign ministry in a statement.

Both leaders "will revise the principle topics of the bilateral agenda with a special emphasis on trade and the evolution of development programs in the fields of agriculture, regional development, bank services and different matters of regional integration," said the statement.

The two presidents will also discuss a number of joint development projects in energy.

1. Not so, Chavez canceled his trip to Brazil

... and Ecuador and Cuba because he suffered a knee injury while out trotting on Monday morning before he was scheduled to leave for Brasilia. So no way he "met" with Dilma in Brasilia.

The story above is a horrible jumping of the gun. One of the worst that I have seen in a very long time.

edito to add: the Xinhua reporter in Brazil reported the meeting as a done deal, probably to meet his deadline in Bejing. Poor man, or woman, will be in trouble with his bosses at the People's Daily.

2. Oh, boy. Who knows how long it will be delayed, too!
Given he gets a knee operation, it might be quite a while.

That reporter will be getting a quick lesson, no doubt.

Thanks for throwing some light on this.

Will be watching to see what happens with his knee. It's a bad time for him to have health problems.
