Accused drug kingpin will go to Venezuela: Chavez

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20101108/wl_nm/us_venezuela_chavez_kingpin

HAVANA (Reuters) – Colombia will extradite a businessman accused of being a major drug kingpin back to his native Venezuela to face justice, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said on Sunday on Cuban television.

Chavez said Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos promised in a recent meeting that Walid Makled, known as "The Turk," would go to Venezuela, not the United States, where he is also wanted.

Chavez fears that the United States, with whom he has frosty political relations, would use Makled to try to discredit him.

-----------------------------
He is accused of shipping tons of cocaine each month to the United States and Europe, in an alliance with Colombian leftist rebels.

They did not disclose any accords on Makled, who has said in a television interview that he poured $2 million into a 2007 Chavez political campaign and in return got a concession at Venezuela's Puerto Cabello, his alleged shipping point for drugs.

1. Chavez: the US intends to mount another operation against Venezuela

Venezuela's President Hugo Chávez said in Havana that the Unites States is trying to "initiate another plot" against his government using the case of the alleged drug lord Walid Makled, who was arrested in Colombia.

According to Chávez, the strategy of the empire is giving this man (Makled) every chance, even protection, to vomit accusations against him and Venezuela.

---------

the first article is the Spanish version and elaborates more. Makled apparently was a large donor to Chavez. Sounds to me like someone wants to keep him quiet.

2. Chavez has close ties with narco-trafficers?
Sounds like Uribe.

And of course he is putting his citizens in debt to buy cheap chinese junk. Like Bush.

3. He's wanted for murder in Venezuela. If he has his "druthers," he'd rather be in the U.S.,
standing trial for narco-trafficking.

The guest of honor.

5. Colombia to give priority to Venezuelan request for drug lord extradition
CARACAS, Tuesday November 09, 2010
Colombia to give priority to Venezuelan request for drug lord extradition

It is highly likely that the alleged drug kingpin Walid Makled can be extradited to Venezuela, said Colombian political analyst Diego Arias.

The Colombian expert told Venezuelan radio station Unión Radio that in a scenario in which the United States had first requested the extradition, President Juan Manuel Santos, in an effort to strengthen relations with Venezuelan and in a reciprocal move, could decide to "deport him to Venezuela."

"Makled's extradition to Venezuela could be approved because the Colombian government is willing to do so and Santos has operated with relative independence in several issues, including from the United States," Arias said.
