Canada to deport fearful mom to Colombia

MONTREAL, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A Canadian judge ordered a Colombian woman to return to her homeland next week despite her fears she will be targeted by death squads.

Gloria Patricia Uribe and her two young children have an appointment Thursday at Montreal's Trudeau Airport for their flight to Colombia following a judge's refusal to halt her deportation.

"It's tragic," said John Bradley, a supporter of Uribe. "She will be in great danger."

The (Montreal) Gazette said Saturday that Justice Richard Mosely ruled Friday that the deportation could continue after Uribe's Canadian-born daughter, Sarah, was given a clean bill of health after being examined for balance problems.

Uribe applied for refugee status in Canada in 2007 after living illegally in the United States. She had fled Colombia after her family ran into trouble with a paramilitary gang she said killed her cousin.
