Communist Young People Boost Food Production in Camagüey

Camagüey, July 10 – The communist youth in the province of Camagüey is fully committed with Cuba’s economic recovery, that’s why many will dedicate part of their summer vacation to help in the food production.



Their decision is driven by the country’s will of turning the idle lands into fertile areas, for sowing vegetables, fruits and other produces, and consequently contributing to the recovery of economy in the island nation, as the prices of food in the world market are on the rise.

The members of the Youth Communist League (UJC) in Camagüey will also work in farms, vegetable gardens and food-producing backyards, as well as in the production of pork and in the manual egg collection, products which still do not match the growing demand of the consumers.

The world economic crisis drastically affects the income of Third World countries like Cuba, and has a negative impact on the food imports, thus local communist youngsters are gearing up to do something good for their country during their summer vacation.

The UJC, founded on April 4, 1961, has a membership in Camagüey of over 37,000 young people among them: students, small farmers, workers and professionals, who are leading actors of the most important events within the province. (Alex López Almaguer / Radio Cadena Agramonte)
