My aunt Marina is on life support in San Salvador.
Everyone but Marinita was here for the wedding of her grandchild last Sunday when we got a call that she'd had a massive stroke. My tia has had Alzheimer's for a few years which is why she wasn't here, too.

So, Sunday night and Monday morning, everyone + some flew back to San Salvador.

I feel like part of my brain went missing and won't be good for much for a while. As my papi used to say, we're all going that way. But when it's family, the reality gets a little too real. :grouphug:

1. Very bad news, EFerrari. So sorry your family is facing this event.
There just is NEVER a time it's less painful to lose someone you really love, and have known for a long time. They are strictly irreplaceable.

The family has taken a hard hit with this news.

Sure wish this had not happened. Very sad time for everyone. We'll be thinking about you and your family.

3. My tia had another stroke this morning and this one was fatal.
At least Marinita isn't going to have to live on machines. My poor cousins and my uncle must be on the floor.

Carlos and Marina lived up in Diamond Heights when they were first married, and then they bought a house out here in the Sunset. About twenty blocks away from here. It was nice for us kids because you couldn't throw a rock in this district without hitting a relative's house with other kids in it. That was thirty years ago. When you're a kid, you think everything lasts forever. Well, we were pretty lucky as a family. All the kids grew up, the marriages mostly stayed together. We spent a lot of time with each other. That's the main thing.

4. This is so sad, unexpected, intense. Gone so fast.
Hope you and your very close loved ones will find peace with this sudden loss, in time. It just seems far too cruel to lose people you love. Truly fine people seem to be in short supply.

Hoping your family will have a gentle recovery from this sad day. Very sorry, Elisabeth. You're a person we wouldn't want to see unhappy.
