Interior Minister points to Táchira state governor as instigator of paramilitary activities
CARACAS, Friday June 12, 2009 | Update 9'

Minister of Interior and Justice Tareck El Aissami said on Friday that the governor of Andean Táchira state, César Pérez Vivas, "is an instigator of paramilitary operations in Venezuela" and urged the Attorney General Office to hear the claims of "the current situation in the state of Táchira."

El Aissami said that the government would not allow autonomous regions in Venezuela. "We have been monitoring some sectors that have presented statutes of autonomy for the state of Táchira. We alert the country about the separatist plan of governor Pérez Vivas and his intentions of creating paramilitary groups."

The minister said that given the data on killings, kidnappings and the alleged anarchy imposed by the governor, "the government will initiate a security plan to ensure the life of Táchira's residents."
