Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 03:57 PM by 48percenter
You could knock me over with a feather right now. I am so disappointed in JRE. :eyes:

I was just talking to my mom, she hadn't yet heard, she was shocked too. I have always said that there was something phoney about Edwards, I could not EVER in 2004 or in primaries wrap my arms around him. This just proves my gut instincts were correct.

45. I try not to judge people based on nebulous feelings that I have,
but Edwards has always seemed shifty to me. I didn't like him as Kerry's VP.

I could care less about his infidelity, but sadly, today's American are greatly influenced by these kinds of personal matters. Because of that, to think he risked the party's chances by running, knowing he had this skeleton in the closet, really pisses me off. He he were our nominee, we would be totally fucked right now.

3. 48 brought this up in response to a post of mine where I was saying that
"they" always lie when they get caught. She pointed out that Joe had never done this --

and again, it shows what a GOOD PERSON Joe is, through and through.

I'm honored to be such a staunch supporter and BELIEVER in Joe.

5. You know what burns me even more - without Edwards in Iowa
Biden, Dodd or Richardson would have made it into the top three, instead of the 3 least qualified.

:grr:

I could never reconcile his Senate record and his sudden popularism. Whole lotta fake going on there.

for all sorts of reasons (loved him, kids, whatever), but I doubt if she knew he was going to go visit her at the Beverly Hilton recently.

He says it was only for a brief period in 2006 -- they why did he see her a little while ago?

I think he's lying about the kid. Or stupid to make such a statement without a DNA test to back him up.

47. I'm with you!
When I see those women standing stiffly beside "their man" at the podium, I want to slap them. And I want to slap the men for asking their wives to do so. The fact that any cheating man would expect or even allow his wife to share that stage negates any repentance he professes in his tearful public confession.

In that sense, Edwards show a bit of class by not having his wife be part of his public flogging. There is a limit to how much humiliation a woman has to suffer because of her husband's mistakes.

17. That photo always chokes me up
I bit my tongue about Edwards for a long time as I really liked and respected some of his supporters. I was appalled when Elizabeth's cancer returned and he didn't take that opportunity to say "my family comes first" and drop out. I know Elizabeth continued to campaign out of choice, but it seems to me a devoted husband (and father of small children) would have said "NO, you and the children are more important."

I cringed when I saw pictures of Elizabeth on the campaign trail, looking very tired and ill, I was furious with Edwards for not putting her first and put aside his ambition.

I never trusted him. His body language and facial expressions usually said LIE to me. I've known my far share and I can generally spot them.

What always made me kind of question my dislike/distrust of JE, was Elizabeth. She's so sharp and strong, and I just couldn't picture her with a guy like that for all those years. And I think that she said some things about what a good person she knew John to be. (Interestingly, it was a similar comment by Michelle Obama that made me look again at Barack when I was still waffling between him and HIllary.)

Elizabeth talks like a real person and most of us could relate to her. John talked like a high powered attorney and when I watched him, I picked up something very phony. There were so many things that were wrong, at least from my perspective as a woman.

39. I like your thread out there.
People who are arguing it's their private business are not looking at things in light of political reality. Even if people think Americans get too Puritanical about this, that's a whole 'nother issue - the reality is any savvy politician would KNOW this would be found and what the consequences would be for a recent, campaign-related affair.
