Biden County Map of Iowa 'Viability'
I decided that I wanted to see where Biden was 'viable' on a county map, and here it is;

I really haven't drilled it down yet, but I am going to. As in, who lives in those counties, population, economy, etc.

3. I made it...I
went over the results today, and filled it in with the checks and X's. I wanted to know where the voids were, in the state. I also showed it next to the coverage he did in the state, in another post, but will post it here too. He didn't miss many areas...

2. Louisa County.. I will help
Like I said before.. most are farmers here, the rest of us rural. The majority went for Obama, he is all the farmers can talk about. Big signs on the farms out here.. and these aren't poor farmers... Louisa County does not have a huge population.. but I am sure you can find all those facts out online..Hilary seemed to fair okay but really with older women...Edwards and Biden not so much of a showing.. except for me , there were others who wanted to caucus but either were told about the viability or their family members said to just sit with them ...and they listened.. it was a like a big gathering...much more casual than the one in muscatine...not formal at all...

7. Numbers aside, one thing I CONSISTENTLY don't get is how Richardson
comes in above Joe. I've been perplexed by that all along.

9. Probably because they bargained with Obama?
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 10:03 PM by 1corona4u
I don't get it either...unless old school people were stuck on that 'a senator can't win' BS.

On edit; I saw it on CSPAN, when they were trying to get people, it was the first thing Richardson's peope said; 'he's a governor, he has a better chance...' and people moved right over...

10. Read this,,,,from DE online...
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 10:37 PM by 1corona4u

In my precinct we had 10 delegates Obama received 5, and Clinton and Edwards 2 and Biden one. Biden had 58 supporters (exactly 15%) and Clinton and Edwards had 64 and 66 supporters. Even though they only had 5 and 7 more supporters, with caucus math they received one additional delegate.

I spoke to a friend at the store tonight, and she said that Biden had 60 supporters at her caucus, but needed 62 to reach the 15%, Richardson had 5 supporters there. Richardson's supporters had directions not to go to Biden if they weren't viable. So they joined Obama, and Edwards. These 60 supporters (or Richardson's 5) aren't counted in the percent of support. Bottom line Senator Biden had substantially more support than the % of delegates.

It is sad that there are some (I'm assuming a small minority) who don't realize how lucky they are to have Senator Biden represent Delaware.

So, if it happened, it might have happened state wide.

Richardson probably knew he had a better chance as VP with Edwards or Obama...

14. I bet you're right.
I think he kind of said something to alienate Hillary (I don't remember what, but I remember there being comments about it), and I've heard once you piss off the Clintons, there's no forgiveness.

15. so goes the caucus math
We were told the night before to basically under no circumstances go to Richardson, so I'm sure they were told the same thing as both were vying for 4th.

If it makes you feel any better in our precinct Richardson had 42 supporters but ended up with 0 delegates/supporters, and 10 of them came our way.

16. Just a thought, but in the rural counties
he may have come before Joe because of his gun stance. He sent out a couple of mailings with pictures of him hunting. Richardson does not support a ban on assault weapons which is one reason I couldn't support him.

17. "Assault weapon" is a pejorative term...
for the most popular civilian target rifles in America. Richardson is right not to support it, IMHO (more people own "assault weapons," taking H.R.1022 as the operative definition, as hunt.

Rifles aren't a crime problem in the U.S. and never have been.

19. You should understand how the issue plays in rural America.
Failing to understand that benefits no one.

(And no, I am not criticizing your candidate, nor am I stumping for Richardson here; this is the Biden group, and I understand that.)

22. Okay ..
I was merely posting my truly humble opinion as to why Richardson may have polled better in some rural counties. I probably shouldn't have posted my own feelings on Richardson especially using only one sentence regarding a topic that is volatile. I understand the difference between a rifle and an automatic, and it's not because I grew up in rural Iowa with a father, sister, grandpa, aunts and uncles that hunt. I also understand how semantics are used by various organizations to forwards their agendas.

I haven't posted here much, or anywhere really. I'm just trying to gain a better understanding of candidates and issues by engaging in discussions with others. If you start a thread regarding this issue, please let me know as I'm sure I would find your views as well as other interesting, and most possibly informative.
