Bush may name World Bank chief this week: WHouse.
The top contenders include former U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick, 53, and U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Robert Kimmitt, 59, according to Republicans sources.

Among other names mentioned are Stanley Fischer, 63, governor of the Bank of Israel; former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, 79; and U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, 53. Another possibility, former Tennessee Republican Sen. Bill Frist, has said he does not want the job.

The first part of the article says "to name a candidate". Does that mean this "candidate" must be confirmed by somebody?

And why the hell is ongress on a week long vacation AGAIN? I understand them having Memorial Day off, but what's wrong with working the other four days this week????

1. The US, as Largest "Shareholder" in Bank, Nominates
the Bank Board rubberstamps, and it's a done deal. Google is your friend.

As for Congress, consider it like a commercial break on TV--they're out selling themselves for campaign funds.

Just pray they don't put Greenspan in! Or Volcker, for that matter. Proven failures don't deserve a second chance.

2. To be honest, I think Greenspan & Volker are too damn old, and
although they probably consider it a compliment to be considered, most likely don't want the aggrivation of the job.

Hey, at least Frist turned it down!

4. Shouldn't it be based on qualifications rather than just being An American?
And with Bush being able to pick it, how does that change anything since he also picked Wolfowitz? I guess the adage, the more things change the more they stay the same is true.
