Have you ever visited Arlington Cemetery on Memorial Day?
I was drafted in 1970. After training, I was one of the Lucky few sent to a unit based in Washington, DC. The office and the barracks at Ft Myer were just a few hundred feet from the cemetery. Spent many hours walking through the place, including Memorial Day in 1971 and 1972. Don't think I could handle it today, especially with Bushitler in the neighborhood.

2. No, but I can imagine what it is like
I have visited an obscure national cemetery at Mounds City Illinois. Many of the dead lost their lives in the battles of Ft. Henry and Ft. Donelson, including those scalded to death when a shell caused one of the gunboats to explode. Many of the graves are unknown--not as honored as at Arlington, only honored in the hearts of those who gaze upon their simple tombstones.

It's odd, but I feel as if I am amongst my brothers when I walk the pathways of this cemetery not far from the Mississippi River and the iron works where the gunboats were made so many years ago. There are many emotions I feel as I walk in silence, tears filling my eyes. There is sadness, a wistfulness of lives cut short; but there is also a sense of duty accomplished and also of honor.

Honor. That is what is missing from this war, started by dishonorable men who deigned not to serve their country as youth and now serve only corporate interests. Somehow, I wish that the feeling of duty and honor that so permeates the graves of those long ago soldiers would seep into all of our hearts that we could lift our country out of the darkness and into the Light.

3. Many times, it is touching experience
I went several times when Clinton was in office, He always made a point to be there for the ceremonies.
This AWOL War Monger has not been to every Memorial Day service at Arlington. He has sent Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld to do his bidding in the past. The one time I was in DC on Memorial Day since bu$h came to power he did just that. And it wasn't because bu$h was out of town either.

DC on Memorial Day is a special place with all the memorials and ceremonies.

4. Yes I buried three of my high school friends at Arlington.
That came back from Nam in a box.
I saw Ft. Meyers South, a place where we went to the PX, turn into a cemetery.

Plus my Mom is buried at Arlington Cemetery

6. I didn't realize South Post was now part of the cemetery.
They use to have a great mess hall down at South Post (71-72).
