Greg Palast 500 Rove e-mails.....etc.
Is this for real? If he has a smoking gun, why isn't this making the MSM circles?

Don't know much about Greg, is he credible? Doesn't sound like it to me...

1. Greg Palast is one of the most credible investigative reporters on the planet.
You expect the "msm" that has headlines today about the "al Qaeda hide-out in Iraq" to report on Palast's smoking gun??!

They sure did a swell job of reporting on all the other smoking guns, such as the Niger forgeries bush lied about under oath, which were known as forgeries at least 3 months prior to his lying under oath about them.

There are a couple of threads about it here in GD.

You can watch him and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. speak here - It's in 8 parts.

Once you've got the caging lists, you can get creative. Besides challeng- ing voters of color on Election Day, you can, if the scent of racism doesn't bother you, intimidate them.

Forget the burning crosses, that's passé. This is "Doug." From his all-black SUV, he took telephoto shots of each Black voter as they went into the Jacksonville early-voting station-every day, all day. That type of creepy KGB stuff is a no-no under civil rights law and the Justice Department agreed to look into the matter-after the election was over. What the detective didn't know was that as he was filming the voters, our BBC cameras were filming him. He said his name was "Doug," a licensed detective, and he assured us that he was paid a pretty penny to take photos of the voters day after day. He just couldn't say who was sending him the check. And he seemed to forget his last name. So we're including his photo here to see if any of our readers can identify him.

31. Yes, that struck me as odd too
I think Greg Palast has stuck his neck out too often to get the truth out there and that to doubt his word at this time seems pretty rotten.

I hadn't been here for awhile, but noticed that we don't seem to support our friends anymore. It seems like we are turning on good, trustworthy, dedicated people. There is a lot of criticism and ugly comments about people who are fighting for something they feel strongly about. People who would come here and talk to us and listen to what we had to say.

I'm curious about those who criticize the loudest, when did they stick their own neck out to speak up knowing they are going to get slammed, especially from a group you thought you could trust to be honest, but thoughtful in their criticism.

17. Page 207 in Palast's book Armed Madhouse shows one of the emails Rove is trying to hide.
Edited on Sun May-27-07 03:31 PM by seafan
Dated August 26, 2004, from Tim Griffin, when he was Research Director and Deputy Communications Director of the RNC.

The highlighted portions show direct references to "caging", including an attachment of caging list information and lists of names of people from homeless shelters and deployed soldiers.

Page 207.

The essence of all of this is:

1. Tim Griffin is a top buddy of Karl Rove.

2. Griffin, previous to now, was in a top position at the RNC, and was using caging tactics to disenfranchise voters in Florida before the 2004 election.

3. Griffin has also employed these illegal caging tactics in Arkansas.

4. Rove most assuredly was directly involved in the firing of USA Bud Cummings in Arkansas, so that he (Rove) could install his good buddy Tim Griffin into that position as "acting USA." In December 2006, Tim Griffin was named U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, by virtue of the new and improved Patriot Act.

5. Monica Goodling was aware of Griffin's involvement in the illegal caging in Arkansas, and had warned her associates that it might come up when acting USA Griffin's name was submitted to the Senate for confirmation for the USA position in Arkansas.

6. As a result, Monica then pushed hard after the new Patriot Act provision was slipped in at the end of 2006, that would allow the Attorney General to insert USA's without Senate approval. By using this sneak provision, she greased the skids for Tim Griffin to step up from the "interim USA", to seize the full USA position in Arkansas, out of reach of Senate confirmation.

7. And so in Arkansas, USA Tim Griffin sits today, just like a spider.

8. We have another vulnerable election next year.

This is why Goodling's reference to caging and Tim Griffin in her prepared statement at the outset of the Judiciary hearing last week is so critical. It now opens the door to deep investigation of the caging tactics, Griffin, Rove and the *missing e-mails* that will undoubtedly blow it wide open.

And only ONE question was asked of Monica at that hearing about it, and the question was, 'What is caging.... I'm not familiar with that term.'

Here's another thread from yesterday on Griffin/Goodling:

Goodling to Sampson: Have DOJ pick Griffin for political position, then detail him in as an interim.

This is where we should be digging fast and furiously now. And getting the info to the Committee members.

Greg Palast, Author of "Best Democracy Money Can Buy," Exposes the Continued Suppression of Florida's Black Vote in Election 2002

A BUZZFLASH INTERVIEW

Be warned. This exclusive interview with Greg Palast will boil your blood. 94,000 people -- over half of them African American --have been on a "scrub list" in Florida, which meant they were blocked from voting in the 2000 election. Remember, Al Gore lost by "537" votes. The thing is, most of them were legally allowed to vote and were prevented from voting by Katherine Harris, former Florida Secretary of State, and Jeb Bush, in a failed attempt to root out felons.

Instead, they blocked legal voters from casting ballots and having their voices heard. Well, certainly Florida would have made sure that all those people who could legally vote, would have their constitutional freedoms restored by this Nov. 5th to vote in the election, right? Wrong.

Florida won't get to it until the beginning of January 2003. McBride and Jeb Bush are dead even. According to Palast, perhaps as many as 91,000 should have their names taken off the "scrub list" and be legally permitted to vote this Tuesday, Nov. 5th. Something is rotten in the state of Florida. This weekend, BuzzFlash interviewed Greg Palast about this shocking revelation and the blatant ongoing assault on democracy.

Greg Palast, an investigative reporter for the BBC and the Observer (sister paper of the Guardian), is well-known among BuzzFlash readers for his expose on how Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris disenfranchised black voters in Florida. He spent several years in London because tenacious investigative reporters are not valued in the U.S. media, although he just recently moved to New York City to continue investigating what the major networks won't tell us. Greg is thorough, cynical and fearless. This is our fourth interview with Greg Palast, author of "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy," which is available from BuzzFlash.com.

33. This is the site that got the emails sent to them in error in 2004 and made them available.
They still have a selection posted. http://2004.georgewbush.org/deadletteroffice/index.asp

It was discussed here at DU at the time. Some people even downloaded the caging lists. The site owner provided the emails to Palast. And Palast reported on them for the BBC in October 2004.

That the story didn't get US corporate media coverage at the time they were first made public isn't terribly surprising. Neither did the Downing Street Minutes when they were made public.

The authenticity of the 2004 emails has not been challenged. Rather, they and the caging lists were confirmed by the Repubs but bs explanations were provided.

Recently Griffin-Goodling emails discussing the caging lists and Palast's reporting were released in a DOJ document dump to Congress.
