9. Weak.
No. 48: Close the "doughnut hole" in Medicare prescription drug plan...The doughnut hole is not closed, and by the time this part of the health insurance bill is fully phased in, in 2020, out-of-pocket costs can still run $1,000 or more per year. Money that my senior citizen mother doesn't have.

No. 51: Require insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions at a rate that many cannot afford to pay.

No. 126: Begin removing combat brigades from Iraq...or just re-label them "advisory and assistance support personnel."

No. 132: No permanent bases in Iraq I guess it's easy to assume that all those bases aren't "permanent;" as long as they can theoretically be disbanded at some mythical point in the future, we don't have to call them "permanent." They sure don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

No. 134: Send two additional brigades to Afghanistan Expanding a war in Afghanistan is not a positive move.

No. 174: Give a speech at a major Islamic forum in the first 100 days of his administration. All presidents give speeches. Let's not falsely inflate the list.

No. 433: Sign a "universal" health care bill You mean the insurance bill that has insurance companies inflating premiums NOW, before controls kick in, making actually USING the insurance to get real health CARE out of bounds for many, including me?

No. 460: Ask people and businesses to conserve electricity. Boy, that's decisive. I ask my students to value reading over electronic entertainment. Asking them, whether or not they comply, is an achievement, right?

No. 502: Get his daughters a puppy Desperation. While the Obama family is charming, and so is the dog, this really isn't a presidential accomplishment, is it? More inflation.

No. 503: Appoint at least one Republican to the cabinet Along with a whole crew of neoliberals to drive the nation rapidly in the wrong direction. This is good...how?

I could go on, but I've got to get to work.

Seriously...some of the things on the list are good, even if the list is over-inflated, which reeks of desperation. The good don't erase the bad.

RTTT and the Blueprint: privatization and union-busting of public education...bringing a key foundational piece of a thriving democratic republic down like Saddam's statue. Are we supposed to be cheering?

War...continuing to bankrupt the nation further waging wars that can't be won.

Supporting insurance corporations over citizens when it comes to health care.

The Patriot Act.

And so much more...but I've got to get to work. You get the message, though. Lists don't paint over this administration's bad policies.

20. No. 134: Send two additional brigades to Afghanistan
This I count as a Promise Broken.

During the campaign, he "promised" to send an additional 2 to 3 brigades to Afghanistan to "provide greater security for our troops on the ground, and to pursue Bin Laden in the mountains.
A "Brigade" = 3000 - 5000 troops (10 - 15 thousand MAX)
THIS was accomplished during the first month of taking office to little complaint from The Left.

The Obama Surge was an additional 30,000+ troops... 8 to 10 times over and above what was "promised" in the campaign, in addition to expanding the WAR to neighboring countries and expanding the "mission" to include "pacification" of entire regions of Afghanistan.

While this IS technically a "Promise Kept" (10 Thousand IS part of 50 Thousand), his statements during the campaign were certainly "misleading" at best.

No. 502: Get his daughters a puppy
If you remember, during the campaign, he stated that he would get a "shelter dog"...a "mutt like me"... A Common Working Class Dog .
He made a BIG marketing deal about this.
Instead of a Mutt like him,
Obama wound up with an expensive, pedigreed, Rich Man's Dog.

I personally don't care WHAT kind of dog the Obama's have, but he DID make a big deal out of that "Shelter Dog" bullshit during the campaign, and then did a 180 AFTER the election.
As an individual item, this is petty,
but it IS representative of a distinct pattern...Ownership Class over Working Class.

It doesn't mean anything if it isn't everything I want. There's no point in making any achievement. You're right. We should all just give up and realize that Obama is a failure because of the things on your list.

31. Obama is a HUGE success!
He's done nothing to ruffle the feathers of his Corporate Capitalist Masters...

He's done NOTHING to harm the "Permanent War Economy(tm)", in fact, he's INCREASED war spending...

He's prepared the way for the next pResident to be a republican, the two-right-wings of the Corporate War Party game of switch...

He's been able to raise up hopes and then dash them thereby defusing the public anger at 8 years of bush...

He's served as a spokesmodel for irrelevances in order to deflect any examination of our REAL problems and those who are causing them...

He's been INCREDIBLY successful for the Ubber-Class that hired him...

Way to Go, Barack! :toast:

Elizabeth Warren

Draw down in Iraq

A republican isn't going to win in 2012, a leftist won't win in even longer than that because the left can't convince anyone to vote for them (See Grayson and Feingold)

My hopes haven't been dashed by Obama. You're either admitting you lacked conviction when you had hope in him, or you' were easily deceived.

Our real problem is Republicans and the fringe left parties that want the Democratic party to be as beholden to them as the Repukes are to the teabaggers.

98% of Americans had a tax cut under Obama, the Uber Class was left like Pip, asking for more porridge.

Elizabeth Warren --
A tiny step in a right direction but she's not seated yet. Even if she were, she's still captive of the same old paradigm.

Draw down in Iraq -- yeah, right  -- Still 150,000 in Iraq forEVER

A republican isn't going to win in 2012, a leftist won't win in even longer than that because the left can't convince anyone to vote for them (See Grayson and Feingold)
A 'leftist' will NEVER win in the rigged game you think is an election. Only someone from the two-right wings of the Corporate War Party are allowed to be pResident. Mark my words, it WILL be a republican in 2016. They've already got the best republican that money can buy for 2012

My hopes haven't been dashed by Obama. You're either admitting you lacked conviction when you had hope in him, or you' were easily deceived.
My 'hopes' weren't dashed -- I knew him for a corporate tool when he was running. Your hopes haven't been dashed because you refuse to see the truth of the situation. Most people who had their hopes raised by his campaign HAVE had their hopes dashed though.

Our real problem is Republicans and the fringe left parties that want the Democratic party to be as beholden to them as the Repukes are to the teabaggers.
The SUBSTANTIVE difference between Progressives and the sheep who follow their corporate masters as 'tea baggers' or the sheep who follow their corporate masters as 'Democrats' is that Progressives actually have a program, policies and values that would result in a humane, just and sustainable society on Earth. That's why a Progressive will NOT get selected by the rigged game.

98% of Americans had a tax cut under Obama, the Uber Class was left like Pip, asking for more porridge.
You should read Robert Reich's book: Aftershock. Seriously! Even though Reich is trying to shore up the dying capitalist system in this book it IS the best examination of what SHOULD be done within that context. And LOWERING TAXES is NOT IT! You could also search out Thom Hartmann's latest blog entry about this subject as well. And if you were living in the reality based Earth, you would realize that the Ubber Classes are still enjoying the 'bush tax cuts' that WILL be extended by Obama...

You are welcome to continue floating on the cloud of Hopium(tm), and there's a tiny, tiny chance that Obama will take some acid or something and actually GET IT! But I wouldn't bet my future on it...

If they had a candidate who represented them...

But that candidate cannot make it through the sausage grinder filter applied by the two-right wings of the Corporate War Party...

So, ignore the truth if you wish, your loss :eyes:

And pretty soon you will be all alone in your Hopium(tm) haze...

I don't really bother too much with the un-reccers. They hate the President and the Democratic party. If they have the courage to reply, I thank them for the kick.

The administration needs people like you to get their message out. My parents are frustrated that they get none of this information. I keep trying to tell them it's the "liberal" media and the fact that they live in the "reddest" part of Florida (the Redneck Riviera) that they aren't getting this information. Thanks for the additional ifo I can give them!! And maybe they will be proud again of the President!!

28. Here's a much more important list...
http://whatinthefuckhasobamadonesofar.com/

Just a scan shows that #433, one of the very few with any potential substance, that pretty much cost all of his immense "political capital" is utter bullshit!...

Most of the rest is Foma and hot air turned into "promises kept" by an obvious sycophant...

The expansion of Veterans Services is?

How about allowing families to visit Cuba?

Reversing restrictions on stem-cell research?

The "Women Owned Business" contracting program?

How many Americans do you not give a shit about?

Edited on Mon Nov-29-10 03:54 PM by quiet.american
Walking the walk....

He froze the salaries of his own top White House staff members when he took office 22 months ago and later extended that to senior political appointees throughout the government and canceled their bonuses.

50. Hmm, I don't see ending the wars, kicking bankster a$$, health care for all, saving the environment
saving Social Security, raising taxes on the rich, prosecuting the BFEE criminals on that list of yours.

Obama had better get busy.
