Walker, a 23 month old polar bear, experiences snow for the first time - pics

Walker, a 23 month old polar bear who arrived from Holland's Rhenen Zoo two weeks ago, experiences snow for the first time in his 4 acre enclosure at the Highland Wildlife Park in Kingussie, Scotland November 25, 2010. Britain shivered in sub-zero temperatures on Thursday as snow fell unseasonably early, with more wintry weather on the way. Up to 10cm (4in) of snow settled in northern Scotland and north-east England overnight, the earliest major snowfall in 17 years.

6. These days, he'd likely be dead in the wild
His species is in trouble.

13. Sad, but true.
I hope there is a way that they can survive.

7. Not any more.
Not enough seals to eat, no ice, no habitat. Sadly, a lot of animals may be better off in a good zoo these days.

5. Just like a kitten out in the snow the first time
"Eeew, what's this stuff stuck to my paws? Oh, wait! It tastes good and you can play with it!"

We woke up to the first couple of inches of the stuff on the ground this morning in the high desert.

8. There is something of an intrinsic sadness in that..for several reasons....
He is a captive...and knowing that if he were not a captive, he might not survive long...and knowing that the natural habitat for his kind maybe disappearing altogether...
