Feldene. $122 Kroger's. $2 Clinic Pharmacy
In a nutshell, here is the proof of the insanity in our health care system.

My doctor prescribed some Feldene for knee injury. It's an anti-inflammatory.

I went to pick it up at the Kroger's pharmacy. $122. No thanks. Phoned the clinic.

Nurse called me back. Same med available at the clinic pharmacy for $2.

Sheer piracy!

6. neighborhood clinic affiliated with university medical school/hospital
It serves a mixed population on a sliding scale. Some elders, some immigrants, mostly working families in a neighborhood of single family homes ranging from $150,000-$500,000.

5. Isn't it amazing how the price is all over the place?
You'd think that for a standard manufactured product there would be a standard price.

In a sane world that's how it would work, anyway.

7. Feldene is the brand name and costs from $.89 to $1.16 per pill. Piroxicam is a
generic that costs about $.10 a pill.

10. nope
I was just back at the Kroger's pharmacy and asked to talk to the manager. The rx for the generic is indeed $122. He looked it up. He was surprised.

8. I know there can be large price differences for prescription drugs, but
That's the most extreme example I've ever heard. It's 61 times more expensive at Kroger!

11. I talked to the manager today.
I said "Kroger's is sure price gouging here!"

He said "We really don't do that. I'm not sure why this is so high."

9. One of my meds cost $53 for a 30 day supply with a $25 co-pay. That is through
medco, which we have to use if we want insurance to pay. A grocery store pharmacy across town gives the generic for free.
