Bachmann’s Popularity Puts G.O.P. on the Spot

WASHINGTON —

Even from thousands of miles away, through a computer screen, over Skype, and into a packed room in Fresno, Calif., Representative Michele Bachmann knows how to ignite a crowd.

Leading up to the health care vote this year, Ms. Bachmann, Republican of Minnesota, would head to a conference room in the National Republican Campaign Committee’s headquarters and hold Skype rallies, using the Internet video service to address audiences around the country. Staff members walking by could hear the cheering crowds, roaring so loud they reverberated through the glass wall and out into the committee’s hallway.

Such is the power of Ms. Bachmann — and possibly, the curse.

She is a driving force on cable television, a provocative, ubiquitous voice in a world where the distinction between personality and power is increasingly blurred. Now, with Republicans poised to retake the House, lawmakers are watching Ms. Bachmann to see if she can harness her status as an uncompromising — and sometimes undisciplined — spokeswoman for conservative principles and turn it into real legislative influence.

3. bachmann is anti-American
When she called for the press to check on anti-Americans in Congress I think she was looking in the mirror
She is nothing more than a smoldering huge pile of feces that has been left to rot

5. I assume/hope the Dems are planning to make her the public face of the GOP
Then every stupid or dangerous thing she says can be used to attack the whole party, putting them constantly on the defensive.

Or is that too obvious and easy for the current Democratic leadership?

10. Bachmann is an embarrassment.
If the GOP had any sense, they wouldn't claim her or anything she says.

17. Smack in the middle of the state, which is the most conservative part.

Outer-ring Suburbs + Exurbs + Catholic Germans = Moranism. Oddly enough the Scandinavian-American dominated rural areas in the NW of the state are bluish-purple, unfortunateky our rep is the DINO Peterson.

13. It would be interesting to envision a portal into an alternate universe
and seeing what would happen to the nation if were led by Palin as POTUS, Bachmann as VP, Angle as SOT, O'Donnell as SOD, Boehner as SOS, and Paul as SOE...

Over half of the nation's population would be either dead or in prison before the end of Palin's first term in office..

15. There are much more conservative and wackier people in Fresno than Bachmann
Bachmann could appear more normal than many in the Central valley. Unfortunately Fresno and the Central Valley has only one Talk Radio show and that is a Hate RAdio show where Rush, Hannity and Savage are their listened to every day.

There is Public Radio and an incredible Free Speech real Progressive station but both of them are not 24 hour talk radio but only have so shows and the rest music.

There is also a ton of people in fresno who are progressive and moderate but they don't control the Gov, the News, or the opinion.. Most are just trying to survive.

And here in MN we don't know how people can vote for Bachmann, except there was a ton of money that went into her campaign and she had a lot of news coverage on FOX.

19. Compared to the norm for Minnesota she is simply bonkers.
Most Pukes around here are not Religious Right Movement Conservatives, but tend towards a more Paleoconservative economic and social conservatism.
