Extra Bonus Quote of the Day

"Sometimes dictators have good ideas."

-- Nevada U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle (R), quoted by Jon Ralston, referring to Augusto Pinochet's privatization of Social Security in Chile.

"Her staff fretted the line would get out. It did not. Until now."

3. Well, technically she is correct, sometimes dictators do have good ideas.
Sometimes even great ones. In fact a number of classical philosophers such as Plato believed that a benign dictatorship is the best form of government. Of course the problem with that is even if you have a great, benevolent dictator for however long, who is to say that his or her successor would be just as good(and most of the time they aren't).

So the best thing is to stick with some sort of government in which there are checks and balances, and where the people have significant input in order to curb the actions of those who are in power.

4. Well, a certain German dictator did have the concept of the Volkswagen.
But that was far outweighed by everything else he did.

8. Actually, until the late thirties, Hitler was hailed at home and abroad for having saved Germany
He turned the economy around, brought the infrastructure into the 20th century, reached almost full employment, etc. Of course his dark secret concerning the Jews and other undesirables was kept under wraps, at least away from the eyes of the world, and he couldn't maintain the facade forever. But for a number of years he was considered the wonderkid of world leaders.

5. That's despicable.

I'll bet that she admires Pinochet, which wouldn't be surprising really, given that, since she's a fundie nutjob, she worships a stern cosmic dictator.

It's probably safe to say that most fundamentalists are in some way hostile towards democratic ideals. It sure seems that way to me.

6. Oh please, this moran didn't even know who "this Pinochet character" was.
In a typically Pavlovian response, she recognized the word 'privatize' and let her mouth flap open. With the possible exception of Jan Brewer, she is probably the dumbest person in America.

9. Mooselini Made The Trains Run On Time...
The rushpublicans idolize authoritarian figures...as long as they play ball with the corporates. How else do we get cheap labor and materials? Bless them tin horn dictators...they keep things nice and tidy. :sarcasm:

:hi:
