OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — An Omaha woman accused of letting her dog starve and freeze to death in its backyard kennel has been sentenced to spend time behind bars.

Omaha television station KMTV reports that 32-year-old Yolonda Glover pleaded no contest this week to an animal abandonment charge — a misdemeanor — and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.

She had originally been charged with a felony charge of animal cruelty after authorities say she left the dog outdoors in single digit temperatures for days with no food.

A necropsy by the Nebraska Humane Society showed the German shepherd named “Tramp” died of starvation and hypothermia.
