Petition to tell Congress: Don't extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy
The Bush tax cuts, like the Iraq War, are one of the primary drivers of large federal deficit. And like the Iraq War, the Bush tax cuts were sold to the public through outright deception.

The snake oil the Bush administration peddled was that the tax cuts, which overwhelmingly went to the rich and the ultra-rich, would spur the economy.

Now that we're facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, many so-called "conservatives," joined with corporatist "moderates," are singing the same tune. They are demanding we extend the tax giveaways for the wealthy (set to expire at the end of the year) at a cost of $700 billion over the next decade.

Meanwhile, these same members of Congress are demanding deep cuts to the social safety net for the poor, the middle class, the unemployed and the elderly.

There is very little that so clearly demonstrates the callous venality of some members of Congress than the simultaneous demand to give Paris Hilton a tax cut while pushing benefit cuts to Social Security.

Without Congressional action, tax cuts George W. Bush signed into law are set to expire at the end of this year. President Obama has called for the Bush tax cuts that affect the richest 2% of Americans to expire. We need to have his back.

Tax cuts for economic elites aren't free and they aren't effective. The government still needs revenue and giving away money to millionaires (who on average would receive over $100,000 in tax cuts per year if all the Bush tax cuts are extended) takes away from the money we can spend to help the victims of this economic downturn.

There is simply no excuse for Congress to plead poverty when it comes to helping those in need while literally giving it away to those who don't need it.

Congress needs step up to the plate and make sure we don't continue one of the biggest economic injustices of the Bush era. Tell Congress: Don't extend the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.Click here to automatically sign the petition.

2. I am stuck with a DINO-DLCC representative who does everything she can to protect
the wealthy.

Writing to her is useless - I have never gotten any response except a canned message defending her (indefensible) positions.

That is why she did not get my vote last week.

I am positive that she supports extending the cuts for the rich - extending those for people who actually work for a living is lower on her priority list.

9. Your Signature Means Nothing..
...unless its on a check with at least 4 if not 5 or more zeros on it. That's whose calls get answered. Right now almost every congresscritter is counting their cash...how much money they have or need to keep their jobs in 2012. This will mean raising a minimum of 2 million...and those who send in the $10 or $50 don't cut it right now. So here's your "dilemma"...vote against extending for the rich and risk losing thousands of big money contributions or take a stand and end up being "Feingolded"...

11. Or Match Fire WIth Fire...
Citizens United has turned our elections into a sham...it's all about the money and it's not going to change. So your options are to adapt (such as what David Brock is proposing) or crawl under a rock. In '08 the netroots put itself in a more powerful position cause it was able to quickly raise large amounts for candidates...when that didn't happen in 2010 you see the results on all ends.

I hate this situation...absolutely depressing, but it is what it is. This is the time to re-energize those netroots...make it viable again and this time to demand the same thing for our money the corporates do with theirs.

Cheers...
