Eric Cantor Tries to Lie His Way Out of Compromise

By most accounts, the administration's plan to "decouple" the top Bush tax cuts from the rest would seem to be a good, practical approach. In fact, I bet a lot of you think it goes too far down Compromise Lane.

Naturally, that means Republcians consider it a non-starter, which forced Eric Cantor to trot out the "it'll raise taxes on small businesses lie again." Since he MUST know that's not true by now, isn't what he's really saying "we don't want to raise taxes on the rich guys that got us elected?"

Gonna be a whale of a two years.

2. "decouple" = "tax cuts for the rich" "tax cuts for everybody else" takes away a Republican weapon.

They can't do the "Democrats will raise your taxes!" BS anymore, which works so well with low-information voters.

4. Worse yet, it forces a vote on just the tax hike for the rich down the road.

Making the others permanent and the upper bracket cut temporary means that we'll be looking at a vote to lower taxes on the rich alone in an election year. You know the battle is lost after that. Cantor knows that. That's why he's hopping.

3. You expect the Republicans to tell the truth NOW?

Right after a shitload of lying allowed them to claw their way back into some power? They're not going to fuck with their winning formula and start telling the truth. And lucky for them, nobody in the popular media will have the bad taste to call them on their patent lies, so Cantor's adoring fans can all bask in his standing up for the little guy like the Koch brothers.
